Chicago's Chicago Transit Authority is my favorite debut album, and one of my favorite albums of all time. It is amazing and sounds nothing like the cheesy soft rock stuff that Chicago has been known to do in recent years. Songs like Does Anybody Know What Time It Is?, Beginnings, and Poem 58 make this album timeless.
I'm really glad you said that. I love the Jazz feel in those first two songs you mentioned, and Robert Lamm is a great vocalist. Reminds me of a Jazz vocalist like Sinatra.Chicago's Chicago Transit Authority is my favorite debut album, and one of my favorite albums of all time. Yea, it's too bad that Peter Cetera moved the band into a more pop oriented soft rock band. I mean songs like "If you Leave Me Now" and "You're The Inspiration" are the types of songs you get embarrassed while you listen to them because they're so damn cheesy. Chicago hasn't written a better love song than "Beginnings".
When I first listened to Chicago Transit Authority I had a hard time believing they were the same band that did "You're The Inspiration".
"Hot Fuss" - The Killers
"Is This It?" - The Strokes
"Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
"Weezer" (The Blue Album) - Weezer
"Funeral" - Arcade Fire
