From Thales to Proclus, who is your favorite Greek philosopher?

Personally, mine would have to be Democritus of Abdera.  He theorized the invisible, indivisible particle which he called the "atomos".  He was also the first philosopher to realize the Milky Way was made up of light from distant stars, and other planets could be inhabited.

Hippocrates was the most important even though he was a physician, for what he did to modern medicine. Solely philsophers would have to be Socrates because i completely disagree with almost everthing about Plato.

He also disagreed with democracy, and felt the average person was too stupid to vote, a very questionable sentiment.

Well Aristotle agreed and felt that democracy was also one of the more degenerative styles of government (which seems to be true when you consider the power of lobbyists and how they dwarf the influence of voters). He advocated polity as a more virtuous government by the many.

In that era it could have been very true. Questionable, bold, but potentially very true. I think Plato's Plato Hedrum was a testiment to the human imagination. Out of the Greek philosopher's I've read about, Socrates. "Knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing."

There can be no doubt Socrates was the most "wise". Plato on the other hand in some respects was an anarchist. If you closely look out how much Greek society was based around Democracy, it could be argued he was trying to dismantle that society.

Even though he's not strictly a philosopher, I enjoy reading Pliny's letters in the original Latin in the A2 course I'm doing. In fact, I don't even think he's Greek.

I'll have to say Aristotle, Socrates and Plato. Not because I think they are particularly interesting on their own today, but because they influenced many later philosophers.

Honorable mention: Epicurus :P
