Dave Pirner... I guess? He sings and plays and his voice is soothing though he is obviously NOT a guitar god.

It's kind of funny though. On Bleach he shows that he can play the guitar pretty darn well. Hismusic never was to focus on the guitar but as a whole band that mended well. Milk It for example is not some kind of great guitar solo but just well made to sound good.

It's also quite difficult to sing and play guitar at the same time, and he does a pretty good job of it.

I don't mind the Rolling Stone even though people bash it. However I doubt they put him there just on guitar playing skills. We know that he can't win in that department and I do love Nirvana but that is just the way it is.

That's just Rolling Stone, who really are not a good source. They said that the album Nevermind was too little too late and that it was a bad attempt to ride the grunge wave, failing in comparison to the 'big name' grunge bands like Soundgarden and Husker Du. Nevermind started the grunge wave, and neither Husker Du nor Soundgarden existed before Nirvana.

I'd agree with you there that he could in no way win , but still , number 12 must count for some really good guitar skills ... for example , the solo in "In Bloom" :)

I am tired of classic rock and all of the usual answers music wise here.. Doesnt anyone explore other bands other than the usual greats... I like Jimmy Hendrix and Robert plant and of course they were gods, but other people do exist.

If we're playing by the rules then itd be a tie between Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton (especially the "Cream" years, SWLABR haha).

That said my favourite guitarist would be Andres Segovia, but thats probably because i listen to and play a lot more classical guitar than anything else.
