Scream. The first one. Greatest horror movie ever made. Its self-referential style, the way it lampoons the genre as a whole, and the emotional and semi-believable story set it above the rest. And the costume the killer wears is perfect.

I'm not really a fan of horror movies...I seem to only like horror movies if they're also a comedy (Zombieland) or are completely over the top (Evil Dead 2).

Evil Dead 2

28 Days Later

Saw 1

A Tale of Two Sisters

Zombieland (I am saying this as it is a bit of a horror-comedy)

Teeth

The Host

Jacob's Ladder

The Omen

Dawn of the Dead (both original and remake)

Just a random list of stuff I could think of. Plan on getting Trick r Treat and that will likely rank up their as one of my favs. Also need to see Drag Me to Hell.

For me, the classics form the list:

  1. Halloween (The original, not those Rob Zombie hacks. This is my favorite horror film hands down.)
  2. Black Christmas (The original from 1974. This predated even Halloween and serves to be one of the best holiday-based horror films ever.)
  3. Night of the Living Dead (The original, fatalistic one that started the zombie trend, though the word "zombie" is never used even once in the film.)
  4. Psycho
  5. Rosemary's Baby
  6. Dagon (Probably the only watchable version of H.P. Lovecraft's Shadow over Innsmouth -- it is genuinely creepy despite its slight flaws).
  7. Nosferatu (The original.)
  8. Nosferatu (The 1970s remake with Klaus Kinski).
  9. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Again the original. I both love and hate this movie -- everytime I see it I feel assaulted, but I can't help but recognize the skill it took to make it. I usually watch it without sound, which makes it even more effective. I may never watch the film again, but the effect it had on me the first few times was enough to grand it a place.)
  10. Suspiria (I usually hate over-the-top blood and violence, but this movie had such a wicked evolving storyline that it won me over by the end).
  11. A Nightmare on Elm Street (At a time when most horror movies were holiday-themed ripoffs of Halloween and themeless slasher films, this one did something different).
  12. Homicidal (This is actually William Castle's blatant ripoff of Psycho -- with a twist on Hitchock's original twist. I dunno why I like it so much, but its aestheticalways puts me in a creepy mood).

Let The Right One In

Ringu (And The Ring, the American version)

Saw (Only the first one. The rest are only have shock value)

Alien

The Last House on the Left (Although I admitingly have not seen the original, I enjoyed the remake)

The Exorcist (The good version, with all the demons in single frames of the movie. I really enjoyed that :-D)

Will edit if I think up more.

Pretty much the same list I had from the Halloween thread. :P

The original Shutter, Jacobs Ladder, The Orphanage, 28 Days Later, The Host, A Tale of Two Sisters. I would add Let The Right One In if I considered it horror. :?

The Descent, The Thing, the first SAW (especially if you watched the first one before any other one.)
