I'm new to this genre. My friend recommended me Arctic Monkeys and the Main Drag and I really enjoyed listening to them. Anyone here would like to share their favorite indie rock bands? Youtube links to the songs would be nice too :]

I don't know, but everytime I go on facebook, my hipster friend always posts a status telling everyone to go check out some bands that presumably no ones heard of except her. She's really a wannabe hipster, which is a turnoff...Or is it?

ArcadeFire

AnimalCollective (kind of electronic, but everyone should check it out)

The Decemberists

Grizzly Bear

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Shins, The Racounters, Radiohead, Modest Mouse, and The Strokes are great, but some of those are just not very mainstream (or you might not now)

They are an amazing band that should be a lot more known. I love them, although everything but MWPP and Peacebone arent very mainstream and can see why people ignore those.

I like a subgenre of indie called shoegaze which has some incredible bands - slowdive, chapterhouse, school of seven bells, m83, air formation, airiel, alcest, tears runs rings, stella luna, the jesus and mary chain. Also untitled by interpol is a good song even if the rest of the album I forced myself to sit through was liquidised dog faeces that track was freaking epic.

If you like MGMT and/or Passion Pit, then check out The Naked and Famous

Two Door Cinema Club, I love their sound.

Local Natives, Portugal. The Man are both great bands!

Awesome thread, picked up a couple I didn't know. Most of the more popular ones are being mentioned here, so here are some from my hometown: Sekiden - Avec Moi Last Dinosaurs - Honolulu I Heart Hiroshima - Shakeytown DZ - Gebbie Street ...and finally, these guys are from Sydney but they still somehow manage to be great Boy & Bear - Feeding Line If I think of more I'll post.

Just looking for good stuff tagged as 'indie rock' in my library: The Dismemberment Plan, Pavement, The Antlers, Yuck, Cloud Nothings, Blonde Redhead etc. There's probably some I've missed but I can't be bothered looking through my entire library to remind myself. Also, how had no one mentioned The D Plan before me? They put out the greatest indie rock record of all time.

Yeah, their other stuff isn't as accessible at first, but Sung Tongs and Feels are amazing albums once you get into them. I rank them up there with MPP. Also I recommend checking out Panda Bear's solo albums. Person Pitch is fantastic.
