Surprisingly good quality for a live rap performance. Most of the time, it's all garbled and you have no idea what's going on and the air is thick with smoke, ah good times. This is a good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgQdWoIkbCkwud03
I like the version of You Got Me with Jill Scott the most ;)
When I saw the Roots live, they did a completely different version of You Got Me. The one I saw was like this (goto about 2:30 and watch) with an long guitar solo by Captain Kirk8)
And then there is also a really cool version the Roots did on VH1's Soul Stage, you can watch it here. Definitely make sure to watch the last 3 minutes...

The Roots completely surprised me when I saw them live. They did a lot of instrument solos and covers of different songs from different genres. I didn't know there was going to be such a focus on the instruments. Black Thought barely said anything. It was great though and a fun night.[QUOTE="Orlando_Magic"][QUOTE="wud03"]Surprisingly good quality for a live rap performance. As of late the Roots have been doing like a 12 minute version of Bob Dylan's Masters of War mixed in with Jimi Hendrix's Machine Gun and the Star Spangled Banner. And they always do a hip-hop medley where they play about 20 different instrumentals... and that's in addition to them playing tons of their own music so it's a nice treat.
I wrote a blog about the Roots show I saw this past summer;)

I'd love to see them doing those songs. When I went they started off with some of their songs off Rising Down and Game Theory, such as Long Time, I Will Not Apologize, and Rising Up. Then they went into You Got Me and did these crazy solos and turned it into a crazy medley with improvisations and covers. I don't remember all the songs they did in the medley except for My Favorite Things, Immigrant Song, and I believe So What from Miles Davis. My friend saw them at another show (a free concert) and said they did hip hop covers, which they didn't do at my show. He said they did This is Why I'm Hot and it was the coolest thing he'd ever heard.[QUOTE="wud03"]Surprisingly good quality for a live rap performance.
