There are two movies that I really enjoy the opening scenes, although the movie doesn't qualify as my favorite or anything close to it. One of them is Varsity Blues opening. I really like the music and commentary. The other is Armageddon again for the commentary and music combo. I love when the opening scene sucks your attention into the storyline.

Reservoir Dogs. The breakfast scene is full of awesome, and they look so badass when they walk down the street in slo-mo

The life of a bullet in Lord of War. It shows a bullet from the factory line, being shipped to freedom fighters, into the chamber of the gun and I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

I see what you mean about that Armageddon intro. Pretty good. Wow that film was out in 1998 it didn't seem that long ago :|

I vote for Pan's Labyrinth but i'm unable to link anything to it since no one seems to of uploaded a video of it's opening credits. It just has this deep Spanish voice and a lullaby in the background. As the narrator tells the story of a lost princess, you see this dark fantasy world. It may sound corney but not to anyone who's seen it. It does a perfect job of setting the mood and gives you the hint that this sure aint going to be any Disney fairytale.

Yes! The opening for A Clockwork Orange is great! The first time I saw it it sent chills down my spine. I would post the youtube video of the Clockwork Orange opening but it has mannequins with vaginas and I don't want to risk getting modded.

I dont think you would, as far as I know there's no rules against nude mannequins.

 I guess you're right.

If it's allowed on youtube it's probably allowed here.

Is that who did the opening song... I liked that song. And the movie as well, but that's beside the point.

The opening to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie had me in stitches. I'm talking about the food metal band. That song is amazing.

Kill Bill vol. 1. It's simple, but intense and vague enough to make you need to know what's going on.

Personally, I very much like the first 20 minutes or so of "Escape From New York". The computer voice explaining the fact that they've turned NYC into a giant prison (awesome) and the introduction of one of the most badass characters in movie history (Snake Plisskin), pretty freaking awesome.

Apocalypse Now (the music and imagery), 2001 (the music and the awe) and Taxi Driver (De Niro's monologue) all have great openings. Special mention goes to the Dark Knight. ^.^
