I don't know the distinction between hip-hop and rap but I Tech N9ne's Vintage is pretty good.22ToothpicksRap is a part of hip hop.

Every rap album is a hip-hop album. It doesn't necessarily work the other way around though because there can be instrumental hip-hop albums that include no rapping.
very nice..Wilfred_Owen
my top10:
el-p - fantastic damage
cannibal ox - the cold vein
nas - illmatic
GZA - liquid swords
outkast - aquemini
company flow - funcrusher plus
the roots - things fall apart
mos def - black on both sides
death grips - the money store (i know it's early, i don't care, sh*t is legendary)
de la soul - stakes is high
it's simply impossible to pick just one, and this list can change on any given month...
I guess I should give The Cold Vein another shot since people with similar taste to me love it so much. I first heard it years ago and remembered hating it. JML897you don't seem to be big on el-p beats, so i don't know...
I really really like I'll Sleep When You're Dead and that new Killer Mike album owns. But yeah, I wouldn't put El-P in my 10 favorite producers or anything. JML897name me 10 better producers, betcha can't...:P

I was thinking about this after I posted. I prefer:
1. Kno
2. Kanye
3. DJ Premier
4. Organized Noize
5. Nujabes
6. J Dilla
7. Pete Rock
8. Pimp C
9. Dr Dre
10. Clams Casino
Obviously that's an all-time list, El-P's almost definitely in my top 10 currently. I know Clams Casino is new but I think his beats are incredible.

lol took you awhile...anyways, i can't really argue with any of those aside from kno and pimp c. i'm a fan of em' all. i just consider el-p on another level, he's just so original and his beats are lightyears ahead of anyone else imo.
i also agree that clams even as a newcomer, has a sh*tload of potential.
[QUOTE="lazerface216"]lol took you awhile...JML897I was making sure I didn't miss anybody super obvious. :P Madlib was on my list originally but then I remembered Organized Noize so I swapped them in.Also I don't think Kno will ever leave my top 10.lol i know, i was just messin'. i respect your list.
liking the taste of artist in this thread..OT has some interesting choices. My choice. Nas-illimatic eboyishere
I'm surprised as well. I remember my first venture into OT saw everyone hating on rap. My faith in OT has been restored
I dig a lot of the classics like Illmatic and Enter the 36 Chambers but I gotta say Black On Both Sides (Mos Def) is probably my favorite of the big name hip hop releases.
I'll pick up the few I haven't listened to from this thread. Always looking for more (good) hip hop.
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
A Tribe Called Quest - The Love Movement
A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
The Notorious BIG - "Ready to Die" and "Life After Death"
Tupac albums..
Wu Tang Clan - Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers)
Wu Tang Clan - The W
Wu Tang Clan - Wu Tang Forever
