EDIT
Recently, I've been listening to a lot of "City Pop" music, after YouTube kept recommending this old 1984 Japanese song to me and I finally decided to click it:
...And I'm glad I clicked, because it turned out to be a timeless funky/jazzy/synthy masterpiece. And it introduced me to a whole new genre of music, City Pop (although I had previously heard city-pop music before in some old '80s anime). But it seems like YouTube has been recommending this song to a lot of people for some reason.
After listening to '80s Japanese city pop, I've also started getting into modern city-pop-style revival genres like Vaporwave and Future Funk. Although the original '80s city-pop is still better than the modern revivals.
@Jag85: Someone call it a best pop song in the world, and I agree. Such a classic.
My favorite recent song would be Gravity by EXO.

@baejoohyun1:
Yeah, "Plastic Love" is definitely up there among the best pop songs of all time. I feel Japanese pop music peaked with city pop in the '80s and Shibuya-kei in the '90s.
That EXO song sounds funky and catchy... Not quite the cheesy K-pop song I was expecting.
@Jag85: Thanks for listening to. EXO has really strong discography, but their title tracks are usually very bad in order to satisfy expectations of fans there in Korea.
