Hey, i'm new to gamespot. I'm a film student who also does some gaming and I figured i would pose a question. Which medium (films or games) do you think is better for escapism? Meaning, which do you think is used more often and effectively to help people escape their worries?

I was just thinking about this today and I honestly couldn't decide. I love games because they are so immersive and satisfying, but movies are so easy to sit and watch and be entertained. Let me know what you think!

Definitely games for me if it's do with escapism. So much freedom to do whatever you want in them and most of the time you can choose what happens.

I'd have to say games, especially RPG as you actually become that person and summerse yourself in their culture for untold hours, and your journey will be slightly different each time you start the game. However, it depends on whether you find escapism passively or actively.

For escapism it's easily games. Although no game, yet, has been able to have the emotional pull of the best movies of each year.

That's a hard choice, I love both films and games. Imagine a world without The Dark Knight? Or Metal Gear Solid 4? Dang...it would suck.

I think it would be films. It's a lot easier to get in immersed in a film IMO. When you're gaming, you always remember that you're just playing a video game because of the controller always being in your hand. With films, you can just watch and you'll forget that you're sitting in your living room and feel like you're actually experiencing the film. Some video games come close to this, such as Mirror's Edge, mainly because of the FP POV and lack of any sort of HUD.

I tend to use both movies, games and books if I want to 'escape reality'. But of the two in question, I'd have to say I use games more often than films, mostly because a game I feel I can replay and still get something from it unlike a movie I've seen five times I already know the lines and songs.

Any film with Jessica Biel makes my crotch a punching bag, it takes a beating.
