Do you guys ever feel like you're no one special? Have any of you guys had like a Biff-esque epiphany about yourselves? Isn't it really saddening to find out you aren't destined for greatness? do you think it's really just a part of letting go of fantasies and growing up?

EDIT: not Biff from Back to the future. Biff from A Death of a Salesman.

Lulz.

I really have no problem being no one special. I'm sure I'll contribute to society in some way, and I really couldn't deal with the fame anyways. The world still needs way more people working in the background than those in the spotlight.

I'll just be happy if I can find peace with myself.

Only people in self-deinial think they're special via divine intervention.

Or the average delusional Joe-I-Have-Talent-No-one-Else-Can-See.

Me, I know I'm far from special.

I'm not even special to someone anymore. =(

I know exactly what you mean. That;s why I'm planning on donating plenty of trees to various public parks across Canada, and have them put plaques in front of them (yes they do) with my name, so I will be remembered forever.

i'm not sure what you're talking about.

i'm talking about Biff from The Death of a Salesman, when he finds out (and what his family neglect to tell him and themselves) that he is and always has been just a regular joe -- that he could never be the great business person his dad wanted him to be.

Eh, everyone has the chance to do something special. If I know I've had a positive effect on at least one person during my life, then that's enough for me. Plus, I forget who said it, but: "We can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by."

If you expect to just up and "be" someone special, yeah that's unlikely. What you make of yourself that is up to you.

Well, I know I won't become special by taking that kind of cynical attitude. As far as I'm concerned, be rampantly optimistic, hard working and aim high. That's how members of my family have been successful in the past, one who started a very successful business in Australia . . .

yeah but is it really up to you whether or not you are "special"? is it natures doing? our own doing? society's doing? is it something we have to accept or is it a state of mind that can be altered?

You really wouldn't care if individualism wasn't shoved down your throat. Even though American culture secretly hates individualism they use it to create this idea that everybody is working for themselves.

Look thru history, there are some naturally talented dudes, but also they had to make decisions to find that stuff out, and plenty of dudes who were average joes and made themselves who they were.

You've been listening to too much Nine Inch Nails. Anyway what kind of rationale is that, just because you think like that doesn't mean that everyone else feels the same way. There are plenty people who are happy living normal lives, not everyone can have a Master's degree from college.

everyone tries to make themselves special but what happens when you try just as hard as those dudes and fail miserably? making good decisions and trying your best doesn't always gets you separated from the rest of the pack. Quantity of work doesn't either. I believe it's something innate, hidden somewhere in our subconscious and if you don't have it then you don't have it. we could probably go back and forth all day on this but yeah. these are just my current musings.

It is a very natural phase of growing up, but in actuality we are all special, just in ways that are often not as grandiose as we'd like to imagine. Follow your passions, learn and explore for you instead of clinging to the notion of changing the world.

yeah i think i get what you mean. it's just kind of disturbing reading stories about guys on their death beds working their asses off to make a stamp on this world to no avail and the thought of putting effort and getting next to no results is just a terrible thought wrought in my mind right now. it's a sinister world we live in and really sad existences most of us lead.

I didn't come to the conclusion I'm no one special, but I did come to the epiphany a couple months ago that my entire life I have have major security issues.

Like, I have problems telling people how I really feel, esspecially other guys. I only let a select person or two get to see the real me

It's people like this that I can't stand. For some reason that can't seem to realize that just about everyone's existence has a point. The world couldn't function if the only people left were the people with the most fame and the most money. Everyone has a place and some people are content with their place. If you live a happy life and make other people happy how could you consider yourself unimportant. I guess it's possible that you aren't happy and you make everyone else miserable though.

You have control over your life and whether or not you do something special. Frankly, if you don't care about 'changing the world' or 'being special,' it shouldn't matter anyway.

I totally agree with this girl right here.

Everybody has the chance to make something special of themeselves. It is just when they choose to use that chance.

No one is special. We may be unique but unless anyone really cares, you're not special. I'm happy for who I am, I don't want to be special or anyone famous.

most people arent special to everyone, but almost everyone is special to someone.
