First Day of Class... What is your approach?

Do you like to be the one that always raises their hand and participate? Do you like to be outgoing and rememerable in the introductions or "ice-breakers"? Or are you more reserved and laid back? Not really wanting to be out in the open? I used to be like that. When I was really fat and completely insecure, because that is what fat does to you. (this will be the second year where I gained 50lbs and lost 50lbs, although I still got 20 more to go for this year, so not there yet... that is an unstable mind for you right there and all thanks to depression). Now I just got a little belly on me so I am much more confident about myself.

From my perspective and experience, there is nothing worse than sitting silently the first day of class. You want the professor to remember you, that is number one. Unless it is a big class, but my school is fairly small and the most amount of people ever in a class is about 50. My classes are usually 30-40 though.

For me, I can't possibly sit the first day of class (or any class) without being the one who basically participates the most. That's what I try to do at least. So I am very much of a participator and like to get things rolling for the rest of the class. But then there are those days where I'm just like... "bleh" lol.

My professors don't do ice breakers. On the first day we go over the syllabus then they begin lecture. I am a quiet student, but I also tend to sit towards the front.

I hate first days...I normally end up sticking on my headphones until class starts.

Depends on my mood when the class starts quite honestly. I've been both, the one who raises their hand, constantly answers questions, makes jokes etc, and also the one who doesn't say much. In fact I'm doing both atm in different classes this semester.

I can never be completely quiet I guess because that's just not my personality, plus I think most professors and teachers like the kids who respond more. However, I haven't made any jokes in my physics class and am not really that enthused despite answering some questions.

:lol: I haven't thought about "The First Day of Class" for years TC. Even back when I was still in college (graduated btw) I don't think I cared anymore about first impressions of the first day. Honestly the last time I cared probably was around sophomore year of high school.....maybe freshmen idk.

Point is it was really too long ago to remember.

Usually keep a low profile and try to get through the day like I do every school day.

I really hate first days. I find the "ice-breakers" very uncomfortable.

Go in sit down crack a few jokes, listen to the teacher till class ends, and leave when class is over. Maybesocialize a bit.

First day is quiet and observing the class. After sizing up the class the first couple of days I start talking more and being more vocal. Depending on the professor or class I will be very vocal, or more silent. When I have smaller classes with a professor that encourages discussion, I will tend to dominate (much different than when I was a freshmen, I used to hate speaking in class), so I have to make sure to pull back sometimes.

Oh God first days are like going to prison, I just wanna finish my job and go back home.

Always starts out like that, but it eventually gets better once I've made some friends who are fun to hang out with.

On my first day of university last September we had to introduce ourselves to the whole class about why you're doing the course and where you came from and yadda yadda. Actually made things easier. We also had our name on a paper sign in front of us on our desk so classmates/teachers could remember our names.
