I just went through 2, but some of the people that currently work there said they went through 3 of them. So I thought that they must have changed it or something.the_man03

im interested in doing the same thing your doing. What questions do they ask?
The first interview was with one of the assistant managers. I think that it went pretty well. I came prepared though, my sister thought I went too prepared. I went to the interview with a dress shirt and a tie. I gave the interview a copy of my resume and they seemed to like that. The interview was actually fun because the person interview kept making me laugh and was pretty laid back.
The second one was an interview with the General manager, he asked me many basic questions. But many of the employees there said that one question really matters. "If you catch a co-worker stealing what do you do?" "Should the employee be terminated or suspended?". Some of the guys that were working there said that question was pretty important.

any more questions I should look out for? Do they ask you to solve a math question (I had to do that once :|) anything else important?

I've been working at Best Buy for almost two years now, so I know for a fact that if you dont say they person needs to get fired, you wont get the job.
The GM is basicly trying to make sure you dont steal and that you dont stand for it yourself, and he's supposed to let you know if you steal so much as a peice of candy, you're gonna leave the store in handcuffs.
They really didn't ask any extraordinary questions. I was not asked any math question.
"Why did you pick best buy?"
"Explain a time when you were part of a team."
"Explain a time when you did a job when you nobody asked you to do so."
I was really stumped by one question when he asked me it.
"How do you think the distribution of hours should be?"
Other than that, I really don't think that you will have any problems with questions in the interview.
the_man03
Thats easy.
The best worker should get more hours. Its only best for the company if the best worker has more time to bring in better results.

that is incorrect, they should balance out all the hours between the co-workers so that they can each get experience in there field. They can't learn there daily duties if they don't get to work adn get the propper training for it.[QUOTE="MellowMight"][QUOTE="the_man03"]They really didn't ask any extraordinary questions. Best Buy has enough hours for everone to learn and sell in their department, plus get a decent pay check, but the best workers get the most hours, and sooner later get the chance to become full time.
Working a Best Buy isnt hard at all, but some people are just better sellers then others. If you're better at the job, you deserve more. That person shouldnt be held back...
EDIT: sorry for the big wall of text. I wont let me break it apart. :( I currently work in the Home Theater dept. The job hasn't made me soulless, but when it comes to selling certain items, I often have internal conflicts of ethical reasoning. EXAMPLE: This guy came in looking for a stereo system. So i walked him over to the stereo system isle which was nowhere near the Home Theater dept. I showed him this Sony stereo system and after about 20 minutes, he handed me his credit card to pay for, not only the stereo system, but also over $300 in installation services and the extended warranty. The system itself was only about $350. I felt bad of course, but we needed that money to meet our services budget for the day. I started to feel better when I considered that he was happy with his purchase, and I that's really all that matters, no matter how much they overpay. Plus it felt pretty good to be recognized.Don't worry, in 3 months they'll turn you into a soulless husk of a human.
I'd know, I sold PCs for Circuit City for 2 years.

Right now I'm a cook at a Ruby Tuesday. Both of my siblings worked there as waiters so i showed up and was automatically hired as the General manager loved my family...it was a little wierd. Well on my first day i was supposed to be a To-Go person, i didnt care i needed to get away from my old job.
I show up and the manager is like by the way, your are gonna be working in the kitchen instead, so he put me on the expo shift. Expo is basically a liasion between the cooks and the waiters. i make sure everything gets to the tables right. Thats not a problem because i have a strong work ethic and can learn quickly, excet i wasnt trained. i had no clue what was what, and every now and then a manager stopped to see what was happening...it was terrible. whats wierdest is that no one cared or got mad
But i learned quick and now i can do everything in the kitchen, cook, expo, wash dishes, stock the line, prep food, do inventory, change kegs. Its a cool job good pay

Yeah. Bestbuy calls it SHRINK and its a top priority. This cashier I knew was fired for eating a Snickers that he "forgot" to pay for. It was a pretty big issue at my store a few months ago, especially in the media dept. I'm not sure if it is now though. The most important question in my interview, besides the theft one, was "Do you know the difference between LCD and Plasma?" After I said "yes", the GM handed me the offer of employment paper.Did they make you take a pee test for best buy? I need a job but...Johnny-Quest
my friend had to take a number 2 and hand it to em for a test.

I hated being recognized.
It's like "yeah, I just sold that middle aged woman a ton of crap she doesn't need! Go me!" My incentive to sell a lot was to keep my whiny managers off my back. I think people need more than a "pat on the back" if you convince a single person to buy so much useless crap.
I can see why car sales men become human shells. You have to convince yourself that the BS you say and push is worth every penny and a great value to do it everyday.
I'm not saying that's how you are, nor how I ever got. But God damn I hated retail.
EDIT: Jeez I'm one bitter person.
