So, the first of the most likely incredibly long marketing campaign for The Dark Knight Rises has begun and what we got was the first look at Tom Hardy as Bane.
Thoughts? Definitely looking better than he did in 1997.

idunno man, you can only pack on so much muscle onto a small frame.
and why Bane? My Batman lore is not that great, but the Dark Knight series seems to be about realistic portrayals of fictional villains. Its easy to believe in The Joker because its some crazy guy with face paint, but its going to be a lot harder to believe in a dude that gets to monstrous size via chemical injections.
Doesnt seem to really fit with the Dark Knight series imo.
what kinda...you know this is DC right :P anything can happen in Gotham City!idunno man, you can only pack on so much muscle onto a small frame.

That is assuming Nolan's Bane is some guy who gets 'huge' with chemical injections, and not just some insane, drugged up meat head who doesn't increase in size. Nolan wouldn't have chosen him if he didn't think he would fit in his own trilogy.idunno man, you can only pack on so much muscle onto a small frame.

haha yeah, and I knew I was gonna catch some flack for my post :P
anyway, I take back what I said. I think the Dark Knight is more about Nolan's interpretation of Batman, not so much depicting the comics accurately. Provided the soul of the Batman series is there, I suppose he can visually, at least, do what he wishes.

I imagine steroids will come into play. Not only is it ripe for social commentary, but its a good analogue for realism and the comics
Meh Bane's a smart dude. Wouldn't be inconcievable for him to be taking steroids or even a suped version of steroids that he himself created.idunno man, you can only pack on so much muscle onto a small frame.

Bane was just an assasine for hire..not the brains...which leads me to believe he can fit in to the series nicely....Omni-Slash
did Bane have a "handler" then? Who do you think will be "the brains"? Soooo excited for this movie!

Oh I wouldn't doubt that they do play a role, I just don't see him (like in Batman and Robin) increasing in body mass...he'll just go bat**** crazy. Which I will love to see because Tom Hardy is a pretty great actor and I hope he brings a bit of his "Bronson" performance into this.[QUOTE="Omni-Slash"]Bane was just an assasine for hire..not the brains...which leads me to believe he can fit in to the series nicely....mrbojangles25

Well we know Catwoman will be in it, but is seems weird to me that she would "hire" Bane or anyone else for that matter.Well we know Catwoman will be in it, but is seems weird to me that she would "hire" Bane or anyone else for that matter. bane is a pretty good character: due to his incredibly high IQ, there could be a lot to go with in making him a more complex and realistic villain.idunno man, you can only pack on so much muscle onto a small frame.

Nolan's take has indeed always treaded on a more realistic formula than the comics, this'll work pretty well I think
i dont understand what's so unrealistic with bane. A venom/ steroid that makes you bigger (maybe even just a little bit) isnt exactly that far fetched. I mean, batman had some ridiculous tank car and a crazy machine that sends sonars everywhere and allowed him to see anything he wanted.
Plus, i wonder how Ras al ghul or however you spell his name will fit in. Im guessing no lazarus pit? but doesnt that kind of take away from his character?

I understand that aspect of your concern, but you have to remember that Nolan is obsessed with philosophy and Bane is basically an anti-Batman pushed far into the darkness. Like Batman he's highly intelligent and physically gifted, he has trained himself beyond the abilities of normal men and orchestrated a number of events in order to learn Batman's identity so he can strike out at him any time as well as using a whole host of villains in order to wear Batman down so he would be easier to defeat. He's too smart to merely confront and attempt to defeat Batman. He's driven towards a goal for action much like Batman, but his desire for revenge due to his hostile upbringing is so extreme that he cares little for the lives of others or how he affects them...the goal is everything.
The venom that he uses to amp up his abilities were actually used and abandoned by Batman as he didn't want to have to rely on anything other than his own natural abilities, but Bane sees them as a tool and pushed their use far past what they were intended for. He basically uses a great deal of Batman's tools and thought processes against him and they are used in a way that's a even darker counter-point to Batman's already dark nature. Used in that way he's a natural for Nolan's world of Batman.
I just looked it up on wikipedia it says Ras's scenes will be set thirty years before Batman Begins.i dont understand what's so unrealistic with bane. as long as they don't show his muscles actually growing in seconds, it should be all good. he can be muscular, and the chemicals could just be a reflex-enhansor/pain-suppresent of some kind to turn him into an unstoppable fighter.
maybe they'll focus more on agility than crushing stuff, who knows.
