I think by now we've seen enough of Matt Smith to decide, so who do you think is the better Doctor? I say David Tennant, I just like his personality and way of dealing with things more.

Matt Smith for so many reasons. The David Tennant years felt like a soap opera. All he did was cry (well not all the time, but a lot) over something. If I had to hear about the time war one more time I would've freaked out. The writing was incredibly hit or miss during those years, and it took until the 2nd half of the seasons for the story arc to actually come into play (ok, they were all mentioned early on, but never really had much sense of urgency to them). Plus, Tennant's Doctor was far too human to the point that he didn't really seem alien. Smith plays his Doctor with a quirky manner but is still able to be serious. In a way he reminds me of a mix between Tom Baker (who's remembered for being quirky but was actually very serious) and Peter Davidson to an extent.
I do think the writing is a lot more solid with the two seasons of Smith so far. It also helps that he doesn't have Martha (who was pretty much horrible in DW but was actually very well written in Torchwood and should've taken the place of Owen instead of bringing him back as a dead guy). Along with that I'm glad there are no characters returning from previous seasons. This was done far too much in the past, especially bringing them all back for the season 4 finale and ruining Rose's character by turning her into some crazy action hero with a giant gun.
This doesn't mean I hate Tennant as a Doctor, I just feel that Smith is a lot more alien as the Doctor should be and the stories are a lot more solid (for the most part as I like to ignore the pirate episode, which still isn't as bad as love and monsters). The problem is that Tennant was more appealing to those not into DW or sci-fi since he really wasn't the Doctor from classic who, and Smith is more of that type of Doctor which will turn off those who've never watched classic who (those fake who fans, we all know the best Doctor is Jon Pertwee followed by Tom Baker and then Matt Smith).
Though, I am worried that this season may not end so well since there are going to be standalone episodes with a billion threads going on (who are the silence and what is their ultimate purpose, what about lady kovarian, how does the doctor's and river's timeline get reversed, was that the doctor who got shot on the beach, and most importantly how many more times will Rory die). I'm just glad there seem to be no daleks this season since they're were never even close to this many dalek episodes in classic who, though I could also do without the cybermen as there were even less of those episodes in all the years of classic who.
This. Only reason to dislike Tennant's doctor is because of the head writer, Russel T. Davies - a flamboyant gay man who thought it was smart to turn the Doctor into a crying, rambling man-child with a hunger unsatisfied by the need to feel loved by a certain, incredibly annoying blonde. And I'm not saying being a flamboyant homosexual is a bad thing, RTD just made the stereotype bad :PEvery doctor is different, and every doctor is supposed to be different. There is no better or worse.

Good points about Smith, he is also my favorite doctor from the new series, although I feel Tennant did have his moments. As for the Daleks and Cybermen, though, I have to disagree as I enjoyed most episodes where they showed up.Matt Smith for so many reasons. The David Tennant years felt like a soap opera. All true except that last bit. Tom Baker is by far the best of the classic doctors. On the modern series, I like Matt Smith better, but I think the shows were better written for Tenant.

You spelled "Patrick Troughton" incorrectly. ;) Also, I don't understand how one can think Davies' writing is better than Moffat's. The former's was borderline soap opera at times. Not to say I didn't enjoy seasons 1-4, but 5 and 6 have easily been a step up.
