Here in the armpit of America,(NJ) during your Junior year in high school, you have to take this state test called the HSPA. This test is basically all forms of math, reading and writing that you have been thought throughout your school school years. So they give us this test March 6. If you pass it, your in good shape, if you don't , you won't graduate.. But if you fail it, you get two more chances to pass it. But if you failed the first time, you have to take a class called S.R.A (during your senior year), to prepare you for the HSPA. If you fail the HSPA the next two times, you will have to pass the SRA class to get your diploma. Seems fair right? Ok. The state is suggesting to remove S.R.A classes. So if you fail the HSPA all 3 times you will go to summer school and you will get some called a certificate of attendance (for attending high school), or something like that. But it WONT be a high school diploma.

So your telling me, that after all the BS I went through all those 4 years. The essays, stupid projects, homework count for NOTHING?? It all lies on this **** test wether I graduate or not? Is that even fair? What if a person just can't take a test? The person knows his his/her stuff but just can't take the test. I've seen people like that. And it ain't pretty. You last the whole 4 years and fail a test and all you get is a certificate for attending high school (not a high school diploma)? Their telling me a high school diploma and a G.E.D are aquired in the same way? Am I over reacting or do I have a point here?

Well I answered #3, but my real answer would be "No, because if they managed to pass their classes, that's enough.  Why bother them with another test to worry about?"

I know that I personally suck ass at tests, I'm much better at written work, but how else are they going to standardize grades? You can't have a single teacher across the country marking every test. Tests are the only way to give a level playing field for the masses.

I already took the test in my sophmore year it was incredibly easy if anybody doesn't know the info required they don't deserve graduation. However, I don't like how Bush and his no child left behind program requires more work out of me than I should have to deal with.

In Florida we have the FCAT in freshman and sophmore years. You have to pass them to graduate high school. Everytime you fail you get pretty much 2 more chances every year. And still, many seniors drop out of my high school because their FCAT scores prevent them from graduating.

That is pointless. High School is the biggest drain and waste of 4 years of your life. 90% of the stuff you learn in High School you won't remember. The only stuff you will remember is the stuff that you have to remember for your future job. For instance, if you are going to be in architecture, you will probably remember more math than someone who isn't. And even if you don't know something out of high school, you learn in college or on-job training. High School does absolutely nothing but waste your life. They try to make it important, but it isn't. The school board should just get their heads out of their asses, realize that they are a failure at life and a complete waste to the advancement of society, and just stop putting out useless tests that mean nothing.

I think you're making a big deal out of this, even though it's probably going to be incredibly easy. We have a test like that in AZ, but you'd seriously have to be retarded to not pass.

Here in Georgia we have the GSHSGT that everyone has to take in their junior year. It has four sections (science, english, math, and...something else that I cant remember, probably reading comp) and you have to pass everyone of them to graduate. I know some people had trouble with it at my high school, mostly the dumb kids, and amazingly I got the vibe that the test was considered challenging in most of the state, but most of the people I knew passed without much trouble, and I managed to make a near perfect score on the thing without trying (I actully liked the test since it got me out of class for three days :P). So when it comes to all these HS achievement tests, as long as you're not retarded and didn't skip all your classes every day to smoke pot behind the school, you'll be fine. If you put in a lot of effort in high school like you claim, you have nothing to worry about. Simply put, the people that fail these state tests dont deserve to graduate high school.

High School helps teens find careers they are interested in. Also, everyone should have knowledge of literature, history, science and math.

Yes. Taking tests really makes you dig into your brain to find things you know and make it so you remember them better.

Right...I can tell that you went to an NJ school. For a guy thats for anti communism action you sure take a lot of bull from your teachers. I know the test isn't that hard. What I'm trying to say is that if everything you do (besides this test) is worth nothing, then why don't we just take the test and get it over with? Science is useless. And all you need in this word is decent math. None of that trigonometry BS. Oh and if you didn't know, most of freshman's in college don't know what they want to major so both you, and high school = PhaiL! Wow,your simple minded!
