For people in Thailand or countries near it

Why are the majority of videogames and movies sold here pirated? I mean, is there any way to get the real version of stuff here?

I got Master And Commander (the movie) a few days ago, and when I play it, the playing speed is raised, not too much, but to the point that it's noticable and really takes away from the slower, more cinematic scenes, like when a ship goes over waves and stuff
