Right? There is nothing forcing a church to marry gay couples, yet more than half of the 2016 Republican candidates are making this their main issue. Fucking idiots, let's fight something that isn't there.

Sometimes I wish politicians would walk hand in hand right over a cliff.

Ugghh, there's lawsuits going on right now where people are trying to force church's that don't want to conduct gay marriages to do them.

Proof?

Going on in the UK right now but you're dreaming if you think identical cases aren't going to spring up in the US.

Anyone can sue for anything. It doesn't mean a damned thing.

And in our constitution, religious establishment is protected from the government and vice versa.

Lol, the left don't give a squirt of piss for the constitution ... refer to it as an irrelevant, out of date document written by racist, sexist, homophobes all the time. I'm sure churches are feeling very confident that they're going to honor it moving forward.

How can an identical case happen in the US when the US has no equivalent to The Church of England?

It would help if you actually read the article rather than just the headline. You clearly don't understand the situation, and besides it won't be successful anyway.

You honestly believe nobody is going to file this kind of case against a church in the US? Really?! I don't know if they'll win or not (Or rather, I don't know how long it will take before one of them finally wins) but that such a case will be filed by somebody is a certainty! C'mon, you know that ... why you're being all coy about something so obvious is beyond me.

That comment is nothing but blustery ribble rabble from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. What do you say about the religious right trying to DENY rights to citizens of this country? Gays are citizens aren't they? Citizens of this country can get married cant they? I cant believe this is even an issue in the 21st century. I respect religious establishment's right to refuse performing a gay marriage. However, religion has no place in our government or public institutions. And **** any religious twat that thinks so.

Again read the article. They aren't suing a church, they're suing the church of England. The US has no equivalent to that.

Of course someone will try, why does that matter? People try to sue people for dumb reasons all the time.

We're not saying someone wont try to file a suit. It just wont go anywhere.

Churches are private. My In-Laws go to a church that won't marry non Catholics and won't offer communion or baptisms to non members. My Father In Law, not being born Catholic, is not considered to be a member despite being an Usher most Sundays. This church would have no problem turning a gay couple away looking to get married. They are more than welcome to sit in on mass whenever they want though.

To my knowledge I don't believe private businesses can refuse service to anyone based on gender, color, creed, and sexual preference, but a church or religious institution could because of the separation of church and state.

That said, the church's argument relies on cherrypicking Bible verses and then twisting them to suit their needs so who cares if two gays get married, I mean, are we stoning people for working on the sabbath or if they're not virgins before they're wed?

Since sexual orientation isn't covered under the civil rights act, protection against discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation is left to the state. As many as 31 states in the U.S don't have such protection, which is why you have conservative store owners hanging "no gays allowed" signs around the U.S following the supreme court's ruling.

LOL how many miles away from the states are you?

@Wickerman777: people are just saying it won't get anywhere here in the United states. It's a trumped issue that people like to play up for whatever reason

Actually he's not wrong. depending on the state, a business can refuse service on the basis of their sexual orientation and some businesses have been doing that.

The whole thing is trivial on reasoning and how it is enforced.

I'm going to have to ask for some proof of that. Therefore source?

One person in one state certainly not mean it's happening all of the US...which is what he asserted. And as you have not given me any indication that is happening....he's still wrong.

I don't think he was implying that it was an epidemic of "no gays allowed" signs sweeping the nation but states considering religious freedom laws or already have them can open doors to that kind of discrimination.

Technically, what he did was legal no matter how discriminatory it was. The only reason why it was taken down was the negative backlash from the public.
