Fortune tellers, mediums, folks that talk to the dead...believe it?

So I hopped on Netflix and they have a new show apparently about some guy that can speak to the dead.

And I thought "Wow what kind of idiots watch this crap?"

And now I am here asking you fine folks: do you watch this crap? Do you believe in it?

I'm joking of course: I have some respect for most of you 😁 but I am serious about the question. It's certainly an interesting concept and quite an ancient custom for people to think, or want to think, that we can talk to the dead.

On one hand, I think it's a load of nonsense; but on the other hand, we all need closure when people we know die and if talking to a medium can help you, then go for it.

The only issue with the latter is that there's a lot of grifters, scammers, and con artists that will take advantage of desperate, damaged, lonely people and in basically 100% of cases these mediums are completely faking it.

Saw the trailer for that show and quickly stopped when I saw that con artist appear. Watch John Oliver's show about psychics.

I do believe in it to some extent. Synchronicity is a good chunk of it. Also, I believe in things outside of our five senses. Maybe there is a sixth sense we don't know about (or more). So I think there is room for a lot of oddities around us. Never seen a ghost and don't watch TV.

@DEVILinIRON: It is fun to think about, that's for sure.

And there's is definitely something special about humans, you know? Like, we are so clearly different from everything else on this planet (and, as far as we know, all of existence) that it sort of makes you wonder...why us? What else is out there? Can we be more?

We've come so far over the past few thousand years, where are we going to be 5,000 years from now? Telepathy? Who knows!?

In general I agree with you; I think most of it is hogwash. According to my understanding, it's possible for some mediums to possess miraculous knowledge, but that knowledge comes from demonic sources. It's a counterfeit gift of prophecy. Prophecy is a gift that comes from God, whereas mediumship is of the devil. Those who go seek the services of a medium are seeking bread, but are given a stone. It's a counterfeit, in my view.

I remember reading how one of these "mediums" took a challenge for prize money and got exposed. Unsurprisingly.

So yeah, more supernatural hocus-pocus nonsense.

So you don't think dead spirits are speaking to them, it's just a demonic trick?

Agree with your last part for sure, definitely getting stones, not bread.

I still need to go to the local physc shop to see my future with the use of terrot(sp?) cards.

While I think there may be ways to do this, I don’t think anybody knows how at this point.

It’s like me saying the Lakers will win the next game. 60-40 chance I’m correct. But, if I’m correct, did I really accomplish anything??

I generally think that stuff is hogwash, with one exception. I personally DO believe in the possibly of an afterlife, just not one match that matches any religion. Working in a nursing home for eight years really changes your perspective on some things.

It's probably all a bunch of bs, but I wouldn't test it by pissing them off and getting possessed by a demon as a result.. lol.

They exist, but a lot of people are grifters.

It's all make believe.

It would be really interesting if magical powers and supernatural entities existed, but they don't. They were more believable a few hundred years ago, when we knew much less about the world.

All bullshit until proven otherwise, but there sure are weird coincidences, like a story a guy told at work yesterday: some dude purchased a TV table or something, went to another country and left his receipt there, so could not pick it up for 2 years, the guys at work decided that it's been enough time for that table to clog storage space and sold it to someone else, and, of course, the original customer turned up with his receipt just half an hour later.

No one can agree on how many senses we have, but most put it well over 20. There's your sense of balance, your sense of position in 3D space, your sense of thirst, etc.

Also, no I don't believe in psychics.

Its all make believe. And worse yet, there are charlatans preying on other people with these kind of grifts.
