Since it's summer and I have a lot of free time now, I've been trying to play with my family dog outside. He's a 7 year old beagle. The thing is, he's not very playful. When I let him out into the forest he just get's so concentrated in sniffing the ground and trying to find rabbits. Then he gets bored and just sits. He likes it when I pet him and I can chase him around too, but he gets tired after 2 minutes. I don't really know any other ways I can play with him. He doesn't fetch when I throw stuff. He's not trained. The only command he knows is to follow me but I can't make him sit or stay.

What are some fun things I can do with my non-playful dog? :)

I already have too many moderations for tonight so.....

Maybe you should hide stinky stuff in the yard and see if he finds it :P

That'd be fun.

It involves peanut butter...

That's right, take him to the dog park and when you get home make yourself a peanut butter and jelly sammich.

No, no, cover your dog in peanut butter! Then, then take him to the park and let the other dogs lick the peanut butter off. >: )

Tape it, and put it on youtube for us.

I'm sure it will be lulzy.

Only have him infected and have to strangle him to death, then figure out a cure, but have to kill yourself to save the cure.

Dogs can not be infected with the zombie virus. It is a virus exclusive to primates. Have you not read the Zombie Survival Guide?

Resident evil dogs are infected :? On topic, try going swiming with the dog, I took mine to a river and he was 10 years old, he loved it and it was amazing he knew how to swim despite that being his first time.

He's kind of old to be very active, but you can work on training him and teaching him tricks. I'm still able to teach my 11 year old blind dog new things.

It's better to get him a Kong toy that's designed specifically for that kind of thing.

My dog hates swimming. Actually, he hates getting wet in general...swimming, rain, baths, ect. If you're going to do water activities, make sure your dog enjoys it. :P

My dog is getting old but she can be active and playful. What I like to do is tempt it with a toy or sock and just have her chase it around. You can also try swimming, running, or playing catch. There's a lot of fun things to do. I think another good thing is to get your dog to meet other dogs. Lots of fun there.

Unless your dog is anti-social. Both of my old dogs want to kill other dogs, and my 10 week old German Shepherd is terrified of other dogs and I don't know why, although she loves the other two even though they hate her.

My dog is terrifed of meeting other dogs. I blame myself for not being there when a larger dog attacked her several years ago. It's always good to get your dog to be social with humans and other animals, otherwise you'll have your dog always shying themselves from other dogs or even violently barking at others just to say away. Believe me, it sucks to see my dog do that. Fortunately, she loves meeting humans.

My puppy loves meeting and watching people, she's just afraid of other dogs for some reason, I don't know why, she hasn't been attacked by any as far as I know.

Maybe you should try getting your puppy to play with other puppies of the same gender? If you really want to, ask someone/research the issue yourself. I think that's the best suggestion I can offer. It's too late for my dog considering her age.

it does not have to be all about entertaining you y'know.

if he likes to follow you and sniff for things then take walks with him.

beagles were born to sniff, take him out and let him do it.

lmao @ the title.

Well as you should know a beagle is a unique breed that was created to hunt, do some research into it and see what games are best to play with a dog of this type. When I first got my border collie (sheepdog) I brought him home, threw a ball down the bottom the garden and he ran after it and sat the other side of it instead of bringing it back - these dogs have herding almost hard-wired into their brain so you will have to adjust what you do with your dog... :P
