I heard on the news one day of the United States having a plan to make a bridge connect to Asia or something. Is this true? I think it's a dumb idea since it will be really long which could make it impossible and the fact that terrorists could use this to their advantage. What do you think of this?

WTH. that would be one HUGE bridge, but it would be cool if they made it, good for people that hate flying.

Do you have a source for this claim? This seems incredibly unlikely to me.

This seems impossible...the fact that it would take weeks to cross this bridge seems unlikely

Yeah, I would like to see a source for this as well... neat concept though, but still unlikely

Wow, way to be a slave to government propaganda. Are you seriously that paranoid of terrorists that you're against any kind of progression if it could be used in any way by them? In this case that logic doesnt even make sense. Why would a terrorist bother with a bridge when they can fly over here like they did 10 years ago? Or cross over through the mexican border? or the canadian border? Or ride in on a boat.

Anyway, if its connecting the US to Asia more than likely they're thinking of making a bridge between Alaska and Russia, which would only be 50 miles long.

Because we can (theoretically).

The longest bridge I could find verifiable mention of is the still-being-designed Messina Strait bridge in Sicily which is a couple hundred feet over 2 miles in length. Extending by a factor of 25 is untrivial, especially considering how incredibly little traffic would move from central Western Alaska and extreme northeastern Russia, two of the lowest population density places in the world.

People when you think of a bridge connecting North America to Asia,  you all think it's going to start somewhere on the west coast of the U.S.A. to the east coast of China. But I don't think that's what the government means (providing that this is even true) I think the might mean a bridge that crosses the Bering Strait, which is where a west point in the Alaska state comes close to the Russian territory .

That would be one big-ass bridge. It would be a waste of fuel and time too. Planes ftw.

See above; still unprecedented scale (by a factor of 25 of so) in a very remote area at each end.

There is no need for a multi-billion dollar bridge just because a few people are afraid of flying. And I can't imagine these people wanting to spend days on the road, only to reach a sparsely populated part of Russia.

Would an American use a car to go to Russia passing through Canada and Alaska and empty Russian steppes to find life in North Asia

Even the trade wouldn't get better,I'd prefer ships

From that sparsely populated area they can drive all the way to Paris and... Wait... What the hell am I talking about? They can take a damn boat.

I call shenanigans. A world bridge is not possible with the constant shifting of the world's tectonic plates.

Yeah, if it ever does get built, wouldn't that be an awesome place to do some racing, taking into consideration of the weather.

I was thinking something more along the lines of the chunnel than an acutal bridge. Then again, water depth comes into play. I dont know what the comparative depth of the Bering strait is compared to the English channel, so maybe it isnt possible.
