Why are people acting like Sarah Palin is going to be the future of the Republican Party? As far as I am concerned she might as well be radioactive at this point. She probably helped sink the McCain compaign more than anything. I would like to see someone like Mitt Romney take control of the Republican Party and make a push in 2012.

What do you think the future yields for the Republican Party?

Yeah...if you're looking for young politicians, I'd say someone like Bobby Jindal has a lot more "potential" than someone like Sarah Palin.

I was wary of voting for McCain because of her this year. If she ran in 2012 there's no way I'd vote for her.

I'm convinced the party is heading for a kind of civil war. It could be a serious battle over party leadership, or a fundamental shift in policy, or both. I mentioned in my blog that the party is in for an identity crisis, and I still hold that belief. Personally, I want the party to refocus on its conservative principles, and take a stronger economic, intellectual approach instead of the down-hominess of Sarah Palin.

I don't know who is the future of the party, but I doubt that it is Palin and I hope that it isn't.

Whatever they do they should drop the emphasis on the religious right, nationalism, fear-mongering crap, and get back to smaller government, less spending (and actually do something about that when given the chance).

my main fear is that the base of the Republican Party will rally behind someone like Mike Huckabee **shudders**

if that happens then we'll have to form ourselves a new political party >_>

The republican party is gonna radically change their image. They're gonna hire Britnery Spears image consultants and become super-duper liberal.

You heard it here first.

EDIT: Forget it, they should become a communist party. I'd vote for them.

I think they are either going to move toward the middle or will move further to the right. By moving toward the middle I think they will add a huge portion of indies and maybe even some moderate dems. Moving further right will only make those who are current republicans content for the most part, except of course the moderate ones.

I hope Ron Paul runs again. And I hope he's listened to next time. He was the most sensible man in this election, with Chuck Baldwin coming in second. Traditional Conservatism is the best political ideology we have, and was the basis of the Republican Party, but they threw it away for silly Neo Conservatism.

Dear God, if there is one thing the Republican Party learned this year, let it be that Neo Conservatism is terrible.
