So where's Jack Thompson?:Pjakeboudville
He got a Disbarment or something, so I guess he can't try to get games banned anymore.

Its not like we need him, we have enough idiot gamers to accomplish that all on our own :?
It would be really sick if the parents set this up and are responsible for his death...still waiting on autopsie results...but I;m really curious to know why a kid died 10 minutes away from his bike, and no one found him sooner...Why was he even away from his bike?
If the kid ran away because of COD 4, there was something wrong with him mentally, and the parents probably neglected it.
well since the store did it, and it wasn't forced by the local government I see no problem. It's silly, but there's no fundamental problem to talk about concerning video games. Gaming is like what rock n roll was back in the 60's - 70's, parents don't understand it so they fear it. Then they conduct themselves in silly ways to battle it, then the courts come in to correct them.
I'm pretty sure that in 30-40 years kids will be involved in things I don't understand and I'll combat them in silly ways as well. It's all part of a cycle.
Virtual reality gaming is the devil. :x It's much more interactive and thus more dangerous than the games WE had when we were growing up!!!well since the store did it, and it wasn't forced by the local government I see no problem. that has to be the reason kids are trying to grow bionic arms and get in boxing matches to the death

This is about Brandon Crisp, the kid who got his xbox 360 taken away cause he was playing call of duty 4 a lot.
He ran away and his body was found a few days ago.
First of all, it's not the video games fault that this kid has passed away. He got addicted to call of duty 4, but thats not the video games fault. Lots of other people play the game, and they don't get addicted and play it 24/7.
This is what part of the article says "The tragic turn of events surrounding the death of Brandon Crisp has shone a glaring spotlight on the issue of video games and their use and abuse by young people."
Yeah some people get addicted, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the game. Usually people get addicted because they are trying to get away from reality cause they have problems at home.
Maybe his parents were always really abusive to him, of course we won't find that out but theres a chance they were.
Why would they stop a promotion of a video game just because this happened??
Do they stop showing beer commercials when drunk drivers run into other people and kill them??
Nope they don't, so why stop a promotion on a video game just because it's a little violent??
What does everyone here think?? Shouldn't people finally stop blaming games and blame the real problem? Which is of course the parents.
joshrocks2245
Bull ****. The kid wasn't five years old, he was freaking 15. 100 years ago he would've already had a job, a wife, and two kids. He was damn well old enough to have more sense than that, and what happened to him is his own fault.

Yeah but most kids do run away one time in their life, and maybe he had a bad life at home.
When his dad was talking on the news he wasn't even crying, so I bet his parents were abusive to him.
The kid might have been suicidial, so I think people should blame the parents.
I mean obviously the kid didn't just run away because they took his 360 away, I really don't think the parents are saying the real reason he ran away from home.
It makes me angry the video games get blamed, when the parents are the horrible ones, we will never know if they did something else then take his 360 away, and I really think they did do something else..
I applaud them for taking the higher road in their realization that MEDIA does influence children, as well as adults.
I know alot of young people like to disagree and say they are never influenced by anything they are exposed to from media sources. But, you they are very simply wrong.
Humans are a species dependant on imitation and fitting into social groups. Media weighs very heavily on our ability to do this. Those who believe nothing influences them, have very little self awareness. Everything you see from media, other humans, influences your behavior. Word Choice ,decision making, etc.

So basically, you just made up a fictional story in your head about how the parents were abusing him, and now you're saying that his parents were jerks because the two characters that you just made up are jerks too?

So he can look innocent of course.
Parents who have killed their kids before, they always want to look innocent and they always blame other things so they never get caught.
Obviously Brandons dad didn't murder him, but who really knows what he did to him.

I've played violent videogames since i was 8 and humm lets see:
-i have no criminal record, hell not even a speeding ticket
-ive never started a fight
so with all the negative media ive been surounded by growing up how come iam not a serial killer?
if the media ever influences someone then they are dumb and thats not the medias fault, just as being an acholohic is not beers fault.

it does influence but other things can outweigh the influence from media so easily that it's virtually neglegable

Are you freaking kidding me? Kids throw tantrums and run away for all kinds of dumbass reasons. Usually, they come back home within 24 hours.

That doesn't really make sense.
I know! I can't see him wandering off without his bike...I also can't see him sitting in the cold until he died when he could have gone to a friends or back home.

Of course kids throw tantrums and get angry and run away, but we may not know the reason that he ran away for so long.
Kids don't usually run away for weeks and end up dead somewhere, obviously he was staying away from home for another reason.
This isn't just about a 360 I don't think, theres probably more to the story.
It seems way too odd for a kid to run away for that long because of a 360, I know the parents are probably lying about some things, I can tell.
you gotta be kidding me....that kid had serious problems and just cause he ran away and died because of one game there pulling ad's of violent games?

it's equivalent to movies which was the 20th century's defining medium for escapism
the personal issues are the problem, not the medium.
if you ask me they should ban LOVE. LOVE has killed way more people than video games. let's start banning abstract ideas.
