This is about Brandon Crisp, the kid who got his xbox 360 taken away cause he was playing call of duty 4 a lot.
He ran away and his body was found a few days ago.

First of all, it's not the video games fault that this kid has passed away. He got addicted to call of duty 4, but thats not the video games fault. Lots of other people play the game, and they don't get addicted and play it 24/7.

This is what part of the article says "The tragic turn of events surrounding the death of Brandon Crisp has shone a glaring spotlight on the issue of video games and their use and abuse by young people."
Yeah some people get addicted, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the game. Usually people get addicted because they are trying to get away from reality cause they have problems at home.

Maybe his parents were always really abusive to him, of course we won't find that out but theres a chance they were.
Why would they stop a promotion of a video game just because this happened??

Do they stop showing beer commercials when drunk drivers run into other people and kill them??
Nope they don't, so why stop a promotion on a video game just because it's a little violent??

What does everyone here think?? Shouldn't people finally stop blaming games and blame the real problem? Which is of course the parents.

He got a Disbarment or something, so I guess he can't try to get games banned anymore.

It's just publicity for Future Shop, they're the only ones that gain from it since we're all aware of this situation now. As for the story, I do find it strange that they single handedly picked one death out of so many. I feel bad for his parents though, but ending a launch for a game, it doesn't benefit much except for reminding his parents even more. I thought he played COD4 more than anything and not Gears of War.

Its not like we need him, we have enough idiot gamers to accomplish that all on our own :?

This is ridiculous! Games have nothing to do with it. But somehow it seems people are more fixated on games rather than the death of that kid. This is tragic but the media is turning it into something else.

We need someone to help those who become addicted to games... It isn't only violent games you get addicted too.

I agree killing commercials in light of this incident is completely ignorant. Its even a slight against the kid if that is the game he loved. I dont think the parents were horrable people. When kids ask for help on how to make their parents let them play T-M rated games thats one of the things I tell them to say!!! "if my grades drop you can take my console".

Their kid is dead is because they were your typical A-hole parents who are not interested in listening to their kids point of view. You can sure as hell bet they didnt have a conversation about grades and video game use BEFORE they gave it to him.

You CAN NOT let your kid run wild and then when they start mis behaving just flip the script and start enforcing rules and take away everything and FORCE them to do things the way you want. You have to sit them down and talk and come to terms. You have to p.a.r.e.n.t.

sad news hearing about that young guy. idk what the drama is all about but he did sound like a spoil kid running away because he got his Xbox taken. now he's dead because he also wasn't mature enough to last on the streetz. i hope there was some lessons learned from the unfortunate example this kid set for others...... who also might think life is crappy when their parents are just looking out for their well being. itz so hard to advise teens, i think the best way to do that is by leading with examples, no one likes to be lecture too, i know i didn't...

It would be really sick if the parents set this up and are responsible for his death...still waiting on autopsie results...but I;m really curious to know why a kid died 10 minutes away from his bike, and no one found him sooner...Why was he even away from his bike?

If the kid ran away because of COD 4, there was something wrong with him mentally, and the parents probably neglected it.

well since the store did it, and it wasn't forced by the local government I see no problem. It's silly, but there's no fundamental problem to talk about concerning video games. Gaming is like what rock n roll was back in the 60's - 70's, parents don't understand it so they fear it. Then they conduct themselves in silly ways to battle it, then the courts come in to correct them.

I'm pretty sure that in 30-40 years kids will be involved in things I don't understand and I'll combat them in silly ways as well. It's all part of a cycle.

Bull ****. The kid wasn't five years old, he was freaking 15. 100 years ago he would've already had a job, a wife, and two kids. He was damn well old enough to have more sense than that, and what happened to him is his own fault.

It makes me angry the video games get blamed, when the parents are the horrible ones, we will never know if they did something else then take his 360 away, and I really think they did do something else..

I applaud them for taking the higher road in their realization that MEDIA does influence children, as well as adults.

I know alot of young people like to disagree and say they are never influenced by anything they are exposed to from media sources. But, you they are very simply wrong.

Humans are a species dependant on imitation and fitting into social groups. Media weighs very heavily on our ability to do this. Those who believe nothing influences them, have very little self awareness. Everything you see from media, other humans, influences your behavior. Word Choice ,decision making, etc.

So basically, you just made up a fictional story in your head about how the parents were abusing him, and now you're saying that his parents were jerks because the two characters that you just made up are jerks too?

You honestly believe some kid just ran away because his parents took his 360 away??
It's not called a fictional story, it's called not believing everything I am told by parents who make up lies.

So he can look innocent of course.
Parents who have killed their kids before, they always want to look innocent and they always blame other things so they never get caught.
Obviously Brandons dad didn't murder him, but who really knows what he did to him.

I've played violent videogames since i was 8 and humm lets see:

-i have no criminal record, hell not even a speeding ticket

-ive never started a fight

so with all the negative media ive been surounded by growing up how come iam not a serial killer?

if the media ever influences someone then they are dumb and thats not the medias fault, just as being an acholohic is not beers fault.

it does influence but other things can outweigh the influence from media so easily that it's virtually neglegable

So basically, you just made up a fictional story in your head about how the parents were abusing him, and now you're saying that his parents were jerks because the two characters that you just made up are jerks too?

joshrocks2245

You honestly believe some kid just ran away because his parents took his 360 away??
It's not called a fictional story, it's called not believing everything I am told by parents who make up lies.

Are you freaking kidding me? Kids throw tantrums and run away for all kinds of dumbass reasons. Usually, they come back home within 24 hours.

I know! I can't see him wandering off without his bike...I also can't see him sitting in the cold until he died when he could have gone to a friends or back home.

Does this problem seem a bit different?

I think that a plane flew just above his bike causing him to fly off landing a mile away.

Of course kids throw tantrums and get angry and run away, but we may not know the reason that he ran away for so long.
Kids don't usually run away for weeks and end up dead somewhere, obviously he was staying away from home for another reason.
This isn't just about a 360 I don't think, theres probably more to the story.

It seems way too odd for a kid to run away for that long because of a 360, I know the parents are probably lying about some things, I can tell.

LOL at the people blaming videogames and his parents. Did you ever stop to think he was just a little Xbox-aholic and threw a hissy fit when his parents told him to lay off the games? "No videogames?! *runs into the cold wilderness to die*" No sympathy for people who die over freaking videogames. I don't mean to offend anyone, just expressing my opinion.

The only thing not to blame here is the video game. It is sad that the boy had to die but I don't see how this is the game's fault. His parents took away his privilege, he should have respected that... but he didn't, he ran away and ended up dead. It is rather unfortunate that the game is the one being given responsibility for the child's death when it has nothing to do with it.

And Futureshop playing this up disrespects the boys death and shames the parents who are going through enough.

Which is of course the parents.

video games = 21st century escapism

it's equivalent to movies which was the 20th century's defining medium for escapism

the personal issues are the problem, not the medium.

if you ask me they should ban LOVE. LOVE has killed way more people than video games. let's start banning abstract ideas.
