Just finished watching it. My heart dropped to my stomach at the end. I seriously wasn't expecting Lord Stark to die. One of the biggest shockers ever. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I'm curious to see where the plot goes from here (from what I've heard of the books, it gets better). But on the other, I can't see the supporting, soon to be main, characters carrying the show. Apart from Peter Dinklage, none of the actors seem good enough to keep me interested. What are your thoughts, OT?

I'll be watching for a number of things. So far it's done an awesome job in setting up the stage. I'll be watching for Jon Snow, Arya (hell yes, Arya), Jorah Mormont, Cersei and Joffrey (specifically, what I'm hoping will happen to them) and pretty much what's going to happen in the war. Season 2 cannot come quickly enough.

I'm definitely curious to see if the Khal makes it or not. Hope he does so he can cross the sea and tear stuff up! Oh, well, yeah. I guess I exaggerated a bit when I wrote that. I'm definitely interested in seeing what happens next with all the characters you mentioned. I think it's just because I consider Sean Bean the anchor of the show and learning that he won't be appearing in season two is very disappointing.

A Song of Ice and Fire was always rotating around Stark's children. Just became evident this episode. I think they have the acting chops to pull it off. Do I think they have the star-power to hold an audience without Bean and Addy(and potential others making their exits potentially soon)? That depends. I think this episode and next episode will send shockwaves and raise interest in next season. Not many shows have the gall to cut out it's biggest name and arguably the main character thus far in the series. You have to love the performances of the actors though. I feel Joffrey has been criminally underrated so far. He plays his role SO well, and you can't help but loathe his existence. Arya, Dany, Bran, Jon, Sam, Tyrion and Robb are good enough to carry the load, I think. Sansa's Sophie Turner is hopefully good enough to carry her pivotal role into next season, and the supporting cast will be as good as always. A lot of underappreciated talent on the show(Jorah, Littlefinger, Catelyn, Varys, Aemon).

I think you'll find that while losing Bean was sad, there's plenty of hope for the second season :) I'm certain next episode will ensure it.

I've read all four books (soon to be five, maybe), and it definitely gets better. Eddard was one of my favorite characters, but stuff that happens later puts the first book to shame.

The TV series is good so far, very close to the book, all things considered.

Having not read the books, I knew it was still coming. It will just make it all the sweeter when that little ****, Joffrey, gets his in the end.

Yeah, the show's writers added enough foreshadowing into the writing for you to fully understand that it's going to happen. Then there's a bit of bait and switch at the end that gives you a little hope that he'll live, but it's quickly dashed by Joff. :P

Haven't started watching the series yet (I know I know, I'm getting to it) but since I'm currently up to the third book, I saw that coming. Though yeah it is a bit of the shock in the sense that it's Sean Bean man! But by the way the series goes, no matter how central the characters are, they come and go just like that.

Keep watching. If the show is like the books, you'll still like it.

All that I can say about this episode and after watching it...

This seems to be fairly accurate reaction to it....

Ladies and Gentlemen, Game of Thrones made history with this episode. I just love watching twitter and various sites explode with rage. I foresee peopler aging in next episode too.

G.R.R.Martin you crazy old man you...

The cast can easily carry the show minus Sean Bean. Season two will introduce quite a few new important characters to the series, I'm sure they could easily entice a big name or two to take up one of those roles. I'm most eager to see who they cast as Stannis as he's one of my favourites.

While that was expected, it was still pretty shocking that it happened so early, IMO. I love the show and can't wait to see what happens to Khal.

Put it this way, George Martin has no qualms about killing off any character. I've read all the books. The show has been good. I really like the guy who plays Tyrion.

If it was a spoiler for you go out and read the books. The show is decent but it in no way comes close to how awesome the books are.

Well I don't have HBO, so I can't watch the TV show yet, but if it sticks to the books, it will only get better in the next two seasons. Lots of big things happen after Ned dies.

Yeah, his death is pretty much the catalyst for all hell breaking loose in the series.
