Now that tommen has died, doesn't that technically make Jaime the rightful air to the iron throne? Because everyone knows the throne would pass to the male before female. Cersai only has the thrown due to her and jaimes incest being widely regarded only as a rumour.

"Rightful [heir]" uh you do realize that none of Cersei's kids actually had any "rightful" claim to the throne right?

All I know that George RR Martin will probably die before finishing books 6 and 7. Good Lord, book 6 doesn't even have a vague release window yet.

How about you put a spoiler warning on the title? I've watched the season 6 finale but maybe some people here haven't.

Also, no. Jamie has no right to the throne, incest or not. Cercei is mother to the deceased king and wife of former king Robert Baratheon which makes her partially suitable queen. Rightfully, a Baratheon has to sit on the iron throne but since Stannis and Renly have also died, leaving no heir, it probably leads to some other Baratheon perhaps cousin to Robert.

Isn't Roberts bastard who sailed away a few seasons ago the one with the biggest claim to the throne.

I thought bastards couldn't claim any ruling title. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

@johnd13: you might be right, never thought of that.

We also have the curve ball of John snow not being a bastard, and being half stark half targerian.

Meh. Game of Thrones has to be the worst overrated show I ever watch. Turn off.

@thehig1: Well technically Jon is still a bastard - Rhaeger Targaryen's illegitimate son. That makes Daenarys the rightful Targaryen heir even though she's female.

Spoiler ? Did you fall in a ditch or something. If you just open any intranet page like yahoo, you already see it with no spoiler signs. Where have you been amigo ?

"rightful" means nothing

basically whomever takes it and puts down any rebellion against them is the new "rightful" heir.

And this^, along with the general understanding that Westeros is a terrible place where good people don't necessarily prevail, is why I never understand why people stick to the "rightful claim" argument. Hell Robert Baratheon, to the best of my knowledge, didn't have a rightful claim to the thrown up until he took it through waging war, and he sat upon it for 17 years. Such information makes the concept seem like nonsense to me.

Might is right.

Jaime has no right to the throne, in theory the only persons other than Jaime and Cersei who knew the children were illegitimate were Eddard Stark and Jon Arryn, to the rest of the world both boys were the sons of Robert therefore, legitimate heirs to the throne, both boys die then the right goes to the eldest brother of the former king ---> Stannis, no Stannis no Renly ----> another Baratheon is the rightful heir by line of succession.

@raugutcon: yes but the people don't know that neither tommen nor Geoffrey were actually born off incest, to them it is only a rumour sparked by Stannis to weaken jeoffreys claim to the thrown, plus if we are saying there is no heir to the thrown then technically Robert was no heir because he was in no relation what so ever to aerys targeryn or any other member of his house, at least the lanniseters and the baratheons are bound by marriage, where as Robert was no more than a rebel before he was king he had no heir what so ever. He did not have a right or a claim to the thrown he simply took it.

I don't think successions can work like that in Westeros or the real world.

Presumably one of Robert's cousins would be the actual heir.

Next time add "spoiler" to your thread title if you plan on discussing spoilers. I've gone ahead and made the change for you.

To answer your question, no for multiple reasons:

1) Jaime is a member of the Kingsguard (or at least was). They are a bit like the Night's Watch in that they don't hold other titles.

2) It wouldn't go to Jaime because that's not how the line of succession works. Since all the (air quotes) Baratheon children are dead it would likely go to whomever is the head of the Lannister family after Tywin's death. There are other members of that family that you don't see or hear about that much in the show.

That's who he's talking about and yes, assuming that Rhaegar is for sure Jon's father then she would be his aunt. Rhaegar was Danny and Viserys' older brother, although he died at Robert's hand before Danny was born.

So what? Spoilers don't spoil anything. Scientific fact.

On topic, Jaime has no relation with the crown. Cersei was the kings' mother and de facto queen during both Joffrey and Tommen's "reigns".

Meh, at this point aunt-nephew incest would be the closest thing to normal in the series...

@benny_boy98: If people knew everything there is to no about the familial lines Jon Snow would be the true heir to the throne. He is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen who was next in line before being usurped by Robert Barratheon. Daenerys his aunt could be the Hand of the King.

Cersei & Jaime have no legal ties to the throne. Their children aren't products of a kingly union and would never be recognized legally. This is how the entire story began where Jon Arryn was investigating the true heredity of Roberts children.

They will spoil your ability to post on these forums as not using spoiler tags or mentioning spoilers in the title of threads will result in a ban. Scientific fact.
