GamerDads: How Do You Find Time to Game? (eh.... I don't know how many fellow "GamerDadz" also visit the GS OT forum...but I wanted to ask)

I've been a papa for just over 4 months now and if I game during the work-week, then it's always starting around 10:30pm, which is when mommy and baby are both asleep. You might think it would be easier to find time for gaming on the weekends, but with all the stuff to do around the house (esp. lawn care), I usually don't get to game until around 10pm or so. :?

Anyway, I'm freakin' tired this morning. I'm really trying to finish my stack of games (before buying any new games), so I've mainly been playing GTA IV lately. I played from around 10:30pm - 12am last night....and finally fell asleep around 12:45am.

Finding time to game has been a struggle!

Honestly? I have to force myself to stay up. I could've easily went to bed at 10pm when my wife did.

But, like most here, I love to game. And I'm really enjoying GTA IV

Well, this is game-related, I guess. But it's mainly about dads finding free time to do their favorite hobby

Yeah, GTA IV was good times. Though I stopped after 25 hours for some reason.

Odd, when I go to sleep early I have trouble getting up and I am extremely tired. Yet, when I go to sleep around 5AM (I wake up at 7.45AM) I feel extremely fresh :P

I have been doing this for 8 years. I don't always get much timeto play during the week. Some days I only get 30 min if that. There are so many things to do during the day it is hard. I have incorporated gaming into our family. My son loves playing games so we play some co-op games and fighting games together. We are playing Eternal Sonata at the moment. My wife also plays games on occassion so family time is also spent playing some games together. It also helps they like watching me play certain games as well. It usually takes me 3-6 months to beat an RPG. It takes me 1-2 Months to beat other types of games. My back log is about 30 games. Yet I can't stop buy games when a good deal comes around. The swing idea is a great one as it does work. Also when they get older give them a controller and sit them next to you. I usually only sleep 6 or 7 hours a night so my personal gaming is done after 9. However you also got to fit some good "quality" time with the wife in there as well

I don't play nearly as much as I used to, but I usually have time to play around 8:00pm after my daughter goes to bed. Some games we play together, it just depends on the rating. This is also one reason I have a Wii because my daughter really enjoys it.

Once your baby is a bit older and on a better schedule (ie sleeping through the nights, regular naptimes and bedtimes) you will find more time to game. At four months babies are still alot of work but it does get easier. Babies are also easily entertained so putting him/her in a swing/highchair/bouncy seat or stroller and have it sit beside you while you game is a good idea. When my oldest was over a year we would give him a controller that wasn't pluged in and he thought he was playing. :P

Get your gaming in now while they're little because soon enough they want to play their own games.

I guess what they say about kids is true... they really do become the centre of your universe, don't they?

these days i'm having a hard time playing the games I want to play, too, but for a different reason. i recently got my girlfriend into gaming, and now she wants to play all the time. but she only wants to play games like Tetris and Animal Crossing, giving me no time to play any of the other titles I've got kicking around. I've got 2 games just sitting there staring at me.

Maybe I'll start staying up late, too...

This isn't about "games". It is about finding time to "game".

Yeah, I can't wait to game with my daughter in a few years. But I kept my old HDTV so that we don't always have to play the same games.

Your backlog of games is crazy.....but then again, not really. I think my current backlog of games is about 10 games. Money is a little tight right now, so that helps keep my urge to buy games in check.

During the week, my daughter is on a schedule....for the most part. Daycare is helping with that. We pick her up around 5pm and she's asleep no later than 9pm. She still wakes up about once a night though.

You're right though. Things are getting easier.
