Not too long ago today at 7pm, this message is posted in response to Jeff Gerstmann being fired. Author of the message is Gamespot and is linked to the homepage. I don't know if anyone in the upper managment realize this yet, anything public stunt like this will only feed the fuel to the fire...

I personally am not too sad about Jeff being fired, well, if a good enough reason is given. But how the event was handled was just down right in poor taste, "tone" issue?. The response itself is too generic to even be reflect the serious nature of this event. As FrayerHunter commented on the news:

The proverbial BS whistle is being blown on this. I warned what would happen if a generic PR response was given, and congratulations, this is the start.

FrayerHunter

I have decided to to stop my memership in silent protest partly because the payment was made just about a month ago so stopping now isn't hurting them much. I forsee a lot of people to do the same as well, and hence why I created this poll to tally people's respond on this. Let this be a way to voice our concern regarding the post, not just flame the board with hotheaded topics like all the locke thread in General discussion. Maybe this thread will be locked soon, and maybe removed for "tone" issue. Well, I have done all I can to voice my opinion on this topic, it's up to CNet to (hopefully) fix this problem before I will subscribe again.

I know this is probably the biggest crisis had that had come to pass for GS, and I hope that they can stay strong and hope the upper management will realize that this may mean the end of this site and handle it appropiately. As much as I call you guys reviews are biased(mostly for bashing DW series and high score on sport stuff), I hope you the best.

To all who think CNet is being unfair on this, think this way, maybe they were actually protecting Jeff Gerstmann's name by not revealing what he'd done wrong? If you think of it this way, then maybe it's easier to stomache what they had said. But I guess certain line had bee crossed and CNet may be better off "leaking" this info somehow, else there will be no end of complain and GS will probably never recover.

Who was Jeff?Whicker89

what's a jeff?

Anyway, I never agreed with Jeff's reviews more then others, but I never really like GS's reviews in the first place, I've hardly ever agreed with any of them, and it makes sense with this Jeff situation, and the Eidos thing. I didn't like jeff's reviews that much, (he had his ups and downs, but he's cool on the shows they have here on GS, but anyway, yes I'm mainly mad because of how the situation was handled, I mean, what were they thinking?!?!

^_^ for people without subscription, voicing your opinion on this issue on the main thread should be sufficient.

The funny thing is Gamespot is getting so much publicity from everything, it will probably result in more traffic -- more money from ads and links not to mention driving their stock down. And I wouldnt doubt if people go out and buy K & L out of pure curiousity stirred up by all of this. Either way its a loose loose situation and it's to bad jeff was sacrificed for it.

Forgive me as I don't know the terminology but your profile pic is cool. I love the blue color in that.

It will be a short term event, after the initial publicity dies down, they still will need to relie on the gamers who comes here for review and community stuff to maintain this site... And I can see that tis event is already turning away a lot of subscriber away in disgust. As I said, if CNet can't find a good way to fix this problem, I probably will stop coming here altogegher.

I would like to find an alternative site for game reviews and upcoming games, but I can't help hating the interfaces and mess of layouts in other sites. Not to mention most sites are no better than gamespot and prostitute their ratings to the highest bidders as well -- ign. So until Jeff either joins another website or starts his own, I will continue to hang around here because gamespot showcases games, upcoming games and its community better than any other site. Sure theyre not credible, but whose to say any other gamesite is -- or the etertainment business as a whole. I'm my own critic when it comes to things and it's best that way.

While I can usually trust their PC game reviews (how they first started out), I usually take their console rating much less seriously. It's somewhat to my dismay that this site has gotten to where it is today by becoming a console game reviewe site... Nonetheless, the biggest reason why I subscribed to TA is because of their relentless Ad tactics and Video download. Honestly, I have account in both Gamespot and IGN to download videos.. yeah I am bad :D

I guess one of the biggest reason why I don't really like the reviews here in the first place is that I tend to play games like DW and Japanese RPGs. I guess it's a bit of culture difference for them to rate any of these games so low, but usually it's pretty easy to predict any Japanes game score if they are not made by Square-Enix or Nintendo, hence "biased".

I wasn't really upset about this whole Jeff thing. Right now, there's just a lot of speculation.

At least this took much of the spotlight from the Activision/Blizzard merger news. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. :P
