genres you can't see the appeal of.

what are some genres of music that you simply do not see the appeal of? genres that when you see other people listening to, you ask yourself. "why do they like that?" and why can't you see the appeal of it?

one genre i've never been able to see the appeal of is ska. as some of you may know i've always been very skeptical of this genre. upon listening to many different ska bands, i don't know why it's so loved. i've always pictured it as punk rock with a brass section and an up tempo reggae guitar rhythm.

screamo/emo. i just can't get into it, it's always almost shallow and the vocalists are rarely good with little song diversity. i love ska btw lol. you've listened to streetlight manifesto? less than jake? aquabats? mustard plug?inyourface_12

i'm actually listening to mustard plug right now. no joke. i wanted to see if i was misjudging it or not. and yes. i've tried the other bands. i can't say that i'm seeing very much versatility with this genre. but that's just me.

Of course, this is coming from a person who listens to Extra Tone and Speedbass regularly, so my opinion is probably invalid :|

Although the pioneers of the genre aren't bad at all (in my opinion), a whole lot of it is just total crap.

What exactly do you mean by "metal"? Metal is so diverse that it isn't really a genre unto itself anymore. It can range from something as soft and melodic as this to something as hard and brutal as this.

Well, seeing as how there is a sub genere of death metal which is all about emphasis on melody, I'm guessing you haven't listened to 99% of metal out there.

Which is fine, but I don't exactly think you can claim that the first one "attacks the listener". Metal is not exactly all screaming and growling; that's just a small subset of it.

I can't see the appeal of Noise. Bands that dabble in noise? Sure, but ones whose foundation is Noise are usually incomprehensible.

Metal is mostly about heavy guitar riffs, Death Metal is the one that makes your ears bleed.

Well, like I said, metal isn't really a genre unto itself anymore with how many subgenres its accumulated... it's practically impossible to say something that's true of all metal that isn't true of other music that isn't metal.

I'd offer suggestions, but I don't really know what you consider "good lyrics" and "a beautiful melody", as those words are pretty much entirely in the eye of the beholder. I consider this song to be very beautiful, but I get the sense you wouldn't agree.
