Alright, we all know George Bush says some strange things, but I facepalmed at this, hardcore. I mean, his writers even goofed this up.

The Greeks invented democracy, and then there was (not 100% certain) United Kingdom, New Zealan, India... ect.

US Women's sufferage wasnt until the 20's, and Racial rights was in the 60's.

Did George W mean something else? Cause he botched that...

Depends on your opinion of democracy. Since it took women and blacks so long to vote, we weren't a democracy until that was legal.

Every 4 years men in black suits karate-chop you in the solar plex and take away your delicious long lasting gum!

No it isn't. In terms of age, the semi-democratic (ie only roman citizens could vote) Roman republic has that one. For full democracy (without woman vote) ancient athens has that one. The US isn't even as old as the Democracy part formed during the english civil war. There is also a few other ancient "democratic kingdoms" scatterd throughout history that lasted longer than >200 years.

Rome and Greece had democracy way before the US. The UK didn't have a propper democracy though untill way after the civil war as votes weren't blind and your landlord could throw you out of your house if you didn't vote for who he told you to.

Over 1000 years though i'm not sure how long women have had the vote. Women have had the vote longest in New Zealand.

Well first off, I wouldn't necessarily call the U.S. a "democracy". But it does have the longest lasting government of its kind in today's world.

A republic is often categorized as a democracy just because it shares the same ideals. A pure democracy simply wouldn't work in today's world. Could you imagine what would happen if the entire country had to vote on every issue.... **head spins**

In Greece only a certain group of people could vote, but it was still considered a democracy

No the US is not even a democracy its a republic. Well in reality it could be a hybrid since we don't directly vote but our votes do have an impact. I'm talking about the electoral system.

San Marino is the oldest sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, having been founded on 3 September 301 by Marinus of Rab, a Christianstonemason fleeing the religious persecution of Roman EmperorDiocletian. San Marino's constitution of 1600 is the world's oldest constitution still in effect. :|

If that's the case, then Athens was NEVER a democracy and, consequently, since we were (I believe) the first pseudo-democracy to give the vote to minorities and women, we were the first full democracy.
