Decision Points
So, OT, are you going to read this book? I just picked it up from Barnes & Noble and it'll be the first memoir I read. Hopefully it's a good one.

Possibly. I must admit that now that Bush is out of office and can't do any more damage (:P) that I've been warming up to him. I've never felt he was a bad person, just a bad president. If the book is as candid as it sounds, I'd be interested to check it out.

Have you seen his interviews? He's enormously likeable. Pretty funny, too. I'm trying to find the video clip where he makes fun of himself for using "strategery".

I saw a thing on Oprah where he said something like this: "I'll be walking down the street and people will say to me, you know, you look like George Bush. And I'll say, yeah, I get that a lot. It kinda pisses me off."[QUOTE="GabuEx"]

No, but I'd be interested to take a look.

GW rocks. Hard. I'm not going to turn this political but as a person, I'm a huge fan of his.I saw a thing on Oprah where he said something like this: "I'll be walking down the street and people will say to me, you know, you look like George Bush. Lol. I can definitely see that.
This is the mess up video I was telling Gabu about.

Hehe, well we Americans do have a soft spot for the playboys. It looks interesting, and very candid, so I might pick it up and give it a read. I'm sure it's going to be a best-seller though, with so many people wanting to know what went through the mind of, what history will show to be, our greatest president during his two terms in office.

I agree, I've always liked him.
History will show he's the greatest president?! Now that is damn funny. It looks interesting, and very candid, so I might pick it up and give it a read. That's pretty good.
I really like Bush as a person and I believe his intentions were good, he had a really tough presidency to deal with and I can't blame him for some of the hard times we faced. I doubt I will read the book, but maybe... my grandma always gives me political book for christmas and then quizzes me about it in January so maybe...

Oh no doubt. I may have disagreed with just about eventhing he did during his term, but on a personal level he seems to be a honestly likeable, witty guy. He's no idiot ether. Honestly, you don't get to that kind of positition by being an idiot. I think most of his numerous public blunders probably had more to do with nerves rather than a lack of intelligence.
Not really interested; these things are pretty much always ghost written puff piecesxaos
That's what I'd think. Presidential memoirs usually sugarcoat events so much that you'd get diabetes after reading them.
Though, Nixon has written some interesting Cold War foreign policy books before.

Bush used to be one of my idols. Then, the disillusionment came....
If it actually is as candid as it purports to be then I might give it read as he always struck me as a pretty funny guy that seemed really uncomfortable wrapped up in all the pressure of the job as Commander-in-chief. Like Reagan I thought he was just an awful president, but when they managed to just sit down and casually talk with somebody they really became engaging people. Like Reagan, he just seemed the type of person that just couldn't wait to get out of the suit and just put on his jeans and go fishing.
Hey, don't blame me. This is all over the publishing industry. I'm just putting it out there. The extreme left. I love how the article mentions him sounding like a sloth. Way to be professional.

I'd, honestly, rather read The New York Times. And that's saying something.
I'll read the book and make up my own mind.

I don't exactly see how that's plagiarism. Recounting an anecdote that someone else also reported on is plagiarism?
Like I said, APPARENTLY. I never said I agreed with the article. I said APPARENTLY. This is what I saw on twitter, being retweeted by writers, literary agents, and publishers/publishing magazine. I just thought I'd put it out there, have others get a few laughs. I never said he did.[QUOTE="GabuEx"][QUOTE="ayanami_rei"]Apparently he's plagiarized.ayanami_rei

Don't get upset because someone posted an article about Bush in a negative light (as though that were a new concept, anyway).[QUOTE="ayanami_rei"][QUOTE="GabuEx"]

As much as i really really disliked the Bush Administration.
I did not have a real problem with President Bush though (nor Condaleeza Rice or Colin Powell), but i had a problem with several other people like Cheney, Rumsefeld, Ashcroft, etc.
I will say this much, i am interested in picking up the book one day and reading it. but right now i'm in the middle of reading quite a few Middle East/Islamic history books right now.
where as people i like Obama, Clinton, Reagan, Bush Sr. I was meh or no opinion with Bush Jr.
just didn't like the Bush Administration
Considering his grasp of the English language, I don't think I could tolerate a read through unless it's a biography. But yes, I would be interested to hear the logic for torture, Abu Ghraib, pushing faulty intelligence to war, the Patriot Act, and calling off the hunt for Osama, among others. Should be an enlightening read.
But hey, he seems like a cool guy to have a beer with.

I could easily tell you his logic for torture, because he wanted the intel no matter what. I would have approved it as well. Why shouldn't I torture people who are planning to commit acts of terrorism in my country?
