To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make permanent the favorable treatment afforded combat pay under the earned income tax credit, and for other purposes.

All you are doing is filling out a form, and the military keeps it on file. In a time of need, the military takes out a specific range of birth dates. Those who fall in the range get to be sent off on the draft..

There may not be a draft since the government is working on an exit plan.

This bill get thrown into the legislative calander every year by two congressmen and every time its only those two congressmen who vote for it. They've stated on several occassions that they don't intend for the bill to ever pass but that its their protest against in the war in Iraq. They're trying to point out the hypocrisy in government about voting for a war but not voting for something that would get their own kids involved in said war.

So no, the draft is not coming and it never will unless we get in a war with Russia or some other country that could actually put up a decent fight against our military.

This bill won't get passed. If you scroll down and read "other bills with the same title", you'll see that every single one of those got rejected and chances are this one will be too.

Some anti-war congressman motions to vote on a bill which would re-instate the draft, because for some reason having a draft would "stop the US from going to war, evar!".

And, as always, it will be epicely voted down.

So, fear mongering aside, the chances of the Draft being reinstated in a time other than the outbreak of World War III is roughly equal to the odds of anyone on this board bagging Emma Watson.
