Recently noticing a lack of anything good to watch I decided to try once more to rekindle my love for anime. I saw a clip of a show called Occult Academy and decided to watch it. While not bad it turned out to be the same predictable anime crap...Its a shame becouse the character design and the backgrounds are great, one of the best looking shows Ive seen. The concept wasnt bad either but...when I saw the male lead I lost all hope. Once more the pathetic coward of a hero that does not evolve at all untill the last episode where for his effort he gets what? He gets the patented anime bittersweet ending, how I loathe this. Almost everything has a pointless semi openeded bittersweet ending...In the whole show only the female lead was a bit interesting I think. When I saw Mikaze I imediatly thought "Oh theres the villain." Not really sure what Im looking for but if it has a whimp hero its out, an emo/brooding soldier its out, the Goku character its out, bittersweet ending its out...Any ideas?

Yeah. Gintama, check this clip out, no spoilers. The main character is awesome. It's comedy/parody/action

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yDhsK_kWxk

Not the best clip around tho, I am pretty lazy after all. If you're one of those that are into streaming anime, it can be found at Crunchyroll.

Try going for a specific genre. Slice of life, comedy, drama, romance, action - what have you. I'll recommend a couple of different shows, with different genres. Clannad - romance, comedy with some very depressing moments. Cute, sweet and heartwreching, this is a show you won't want to miss if you don't mind Shonen romance. Sayonara Zetsubou sensei - slice of life, dark comedy, satire. Hilarious, dark and lighthearted satirical look at otaku's, the average japanese person and takes the piss at anything. About a depressive, suicidal teacher and his weird homeroom class full of perfect girls, normal girls, hikikomori's and other stereotypes you see in manga and anime today. Black Lagoon - action, drama(I guess) and comedy(I at least found it funny). It's about a man fed up with his job, who gets kidnapped by pirates and the story evolves from there. A gunman, a nerdy guy and a big black dude change the normal man's life and he becomes a pirate. Watch it. Azumanga Daioh - Comedy, slice of life. Hilarious, random comedy about a group of schoolgirls and their high school life.

What genre of shows and movies do you like? I could recommend a handful of interesting series that I've enjoyed, but most of them are more geared for adults. Someone that prefers more "adolescent" anime (I'm not being condescending, honest) would probably get bored.

I dont really have a favorite genre, but my favorite anime is Outlaw Star if that tells you anything. Also I dont really like shows like Elfen Lied. I find the overly dramatic and tragic attempts to be annoying.

Clannad is great, it's not just all whiny-soft romance, it's actually really sweet without being eye-gougingly sweet. If that makes sense :P

Anyone who doesn't want to watch the typical crap, watch Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, It's about a group of teens trying to get their band to hit stardom.

Tchiki-tchiki-champloooo... God show. You should also try Rebuild of Evangelion. The first movie was meh... But the second one is beyond epic...

Soul Eater

it's funny, serious at times, the main characters are pretty cool, some have annoying quirks about them, but overall likeable characters

not very melodramatic , and when it is, it's normally for humor purposes , and only really one character

Like everything, 95% of anime is crap. Actually that figure may be closer to 99% now that the anime industry focuses mostly on fanservice shows for creepy otaku in an effort to make money off of merchandising. Anyway, without knowing anything about your tastes, you may find the following anime entertaining as they don't fall into the same cliche trap that most anime do: - Clannad and it's second season After Story - Akira - Memories - The Girl Who Jumped Through Time - Death Note - Neon Genesis Evangelion - Puella Magi Madoka Magicka (don't be put off by the first two episodes, they're incredibly deceptive) You may also like Elfen Lied and Higurashi no naku koro ni, but those two shows can be either hit or miss depending on your tastes and how much fanservice you're willing to ignore.

It does. Cowboy Bebop. Outlaw Star's better, though. Akira is good, too. Ninja Scroll. Vampire Hunter D and VHD: Bloodlust

Knowing that, I recommend Cowboy Bebop and Trigun since they're similar.

Try this one, many consider this as one of the best anime ever made, I heard the spend like 2 million on the final part of it and boy they spent that money right! Even though it's short it is definetly worth watching

After a certain major event in the first quarter of the series--around episode 7 I believe--the series becomes awesome.

I refused to watch any more of it after that event. I was sad. No, 'was' is wrong. I'm still sad.
