Last summer, I weighed about 185 lbs. Well I started jogging regularly, eating healthy, etc... and I got my weight down to about 155-160. My main concern back then was just to get rid of a lot of the fat, and get thinner. Well, after a whole school year, things aren't much different, I think I weigh a little more now, like about 163 or so, but I'm still pretty thin.

I want to focus this summer on gaining muscle mass, toning up, etc... but I'm not sure the best way to do this. What do you guys recommend? I know that aerobic stuff won't do much, I need to do weight training... but I don't really know what my options are. I've tried searching on the internet but mainly I just find useless advertisements for stuff.

I occasionally lift weights when I'm bored. Not much, just 8lb dumbells, and they've helped a bit. I'm sure with a little experimentation, you could find something that works for you. BTW, I'm 17, 170lbs, and 6'4".

A good site is www.bodybuilding.com they have a dedicated forum for questions like this with very knowledable people... What you're going to what to do is definitly join a gym and focus on doing large compound movments like bench press, squats, deadlifts, rows, things like that. Things that hit lots of muscles at once. You're also probably going to want to do a full body workout since you're a beginer. Aim for going on monday, wednesday, and friday and spend about an hour. Id link you to an article but the bodybuilding forums are down right now... But DEFINITLY check that place out, it will help you a lot more than gamespot. Anyways, diet is like 70% of the whole thing. Eat lean proteins, complex carbs, and lots of fruits and vegitables. Fish is your best friend. Eat LOTS of food.. try to eat LOTS of food every 3 hours. Within a couple of months you could potentially pack on about 10 pounds of muscle if you train right, which will look impressive. People will definitly notice.

If you want decent results you shouldn't just "do some of you dads weights". You need a regular routine where you do the best exercises to get results, because if you do your reps in bad form you will take a very long time too see good results!

I do push-ups and sit-ups every night before bed.

And I lift weights and stuff sometimes...seems to do at least some good.
