It pains me so much knowing that people with a higher education level than me cannot spell the word lose. Jesus Christ man... This is going to eventually become such a problem that it will actually become grammatically correct. Just like how the word "spelt" is no longer considered the correct spelling as the past tense of spell. When I was in elementary, "spelt" was still grammatically correct. What happened?

Why don't you tell us where to use which one?

Is this correct use of them?

This knot is too loose.
Please do not lose my books.

Just face the facts. There are many people here at GS who can't spell worth a damn. So long as you get the meaning, be happy.

Throwing a watermelon at Izdope is like shooting an arrow at Malcolm Merlyn, all you're gonna end up with is this

"thanks for the melon Korvus, now I have some supper tonight"

Why? Just because you've been through college doesn't mean you're intelligent.

I think the bad one is when someone refer CPU as the entire desktop computer. It is not only incorrect, but, it makes communication so much more error prone.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Are you telling me it's not?

Language evolves.

Although I agree that the common "loose" for "lose" is easily noticeable and annoying.

@aryianna: I can understand non-natives making that sort of mistakes, I make some too, but when I see non-natives with an amazing knowledge of the language and natives who can't get even the most simple rules right...it just makes me sad...ironically those will be the first to tell you that "your stupid"...

LOL y r u such a idiot, korvus???

I'm kidding, man. Don't mod me! D:

I'm on a decent streak here. I remember when I used to almost regularly get moderations during my first few years here. My last moderation was ages ago. I don't even know how to access my moderation history now. :P

@korvus:

Completely agree. Also goes with it's and its and various other ones. I would never be upset of someone who wasn't native misusing the language. I try not to be a grammar nazi but people need to educate themselves or at least use the education they've been given.

@aryianna: I'm a Portuguese guy who just recently moved to the Netherlands so I'd be the last guy to mock someone for making mistakes in a language that isn't their own...I still make a lot of mistakes in Dutch, but my main objective is to be understood...In English I sometimes still say silly things like in instead of on (it's the same word in Portuguese) so I'm far from perfect. Now if I started making simple mistakes in Portuguese...

Im not the best at grammar, actually I suck.

I hate reading, I never read books. Im terrible at writing cuz I barely know the rules of grammar or know how to spell.

BUT....

I do know how to use there/their/they're, your/you're, loose/lose. That has never been a problem. Although I do know "a lot" is separated, I still do "alot" cuz it just feels right to me...

Meh, I don't understand why people get so passionate about grammar. The point of communicating is so other people know what you are trying to convey... if you understand enough to correct someone, then you understood what they were trying to say and the communication was successful.

Lying - Lieing (wtf how do you **** this one up?)

Should have, would have - could of, should of. No.

There, their, they'er.

You're, your.

Loose, lose, loss, lost.

I see people in college make these mistakes and I go wtf?

It is annoying.

But it kind of makes sense, it's phonetic - loo-se.

So I can understand how some make the mistake.

@MuD3: To me the irritation comes from the fact that if you can't put a tiny effort to not make the most basic of mistakes over and over again why should I take anything you say seriously? Apparently even you don't care about what you're saying.
