Is this possible or is it a myth?
My mom keeps on telling me the same **** over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
My reply would "ya, i understand" every time, but she would reply "no, i dont think you understand" then she would talk about the same **** all over until i get really annoyed and pissed off and yell "i KNOW WHAT IS  ****ING WRONG AND WHAT IS ****ING RIGHT GOD ****ING DAMNIT!!".This is usually where the arguing stops and not talk again until the next day. Then after a week or so, she would say the same **** all over again. This usually happens when she sees some kid doing some stupid stuff on the news.

You will be saying the same things to your kids when you're older.

I don't talk to my parents enough to argue anymore. Besides, they're pretty nice. I haven't argued with them in a loooong time. That doesn't mean they respect me, though.

from my childhood experiences the only way to get respect from your parents is to earn it. And that can be one of the hardest things you accomplish as a kid especially if your parents just don't seem to show any.

I will travel into uncharted territory here and say i love my parents. I have not done anything moumentally stupid and they respect me. I have found it has a large deal to do with if your parents were ready or not to have kids. So many kids are not respected because they themselves were not respectable, and probably about 18 years older then their child/children.

Look parents always give their speeches and you just have to take them. Yeah it sounds like a broken record player I know but it's because they care about you. To get their respect you need to do well in school and be appropriate around them. If you do something they would not approve of (porn, drinking and anything that wouldn't be fitting) do this when they are not around and make sure that they never learn about it. Also you could possibly find a hobby that one of your parents likes and join them in that activity. Parents really like that. May be you could play some catch with your old man or hit some balls at the golf dome with him. If all else fails well you will once be on your own.

You're the child; that means until you become an adult you are a subordinate.  Besides, you can still earn their respect.  Just like you earn respect from your boss by doing what you're suppossed to, the same thing applies to parents.

respect is only present when it goes both ways. when u do everything according to ur parents and they show respect for that it is extreamly lop sided.

"3. Respect them" I believe that was in the first post... yep I agree that respect goes both ways; so why not start with yourself?

Basically, you're a leech until you move out. The Father wants you out while the Mother wants you to stay as long as possible...

And respect...it has to go both ways...if one party does not obey, why should the other one...

Most of the time respect gets jumbled in with common courtesy, appreciation, and tons of other things.  Most people see respect as some sort of ranking that makes others better than one another, and that's just foolish.

It really agravates me when people act like they deserve a certain level of respect and then say something like "respect has to be earned".  Normally I just say you don't even know what respect means, and then I ignore them.

I would suggest that you talk to your dad about how your mom speaks to you maybe they can talk things over or you can get to the bottom of why your mom talks like that to you.( i'm only suggesting an idea)

How to keep your parents off your back?

Do well in school.

Get a job. And keep it.

Stay out of trouble, don't embarrass your family's name.

Stay out of the police blotter, stay out jail, stay out of squad cars, stay out of courtrooms.

Help them out around the house.

Keep your room clean.

Be social with other people, don't dick around in your basement all day everyday.

You do that and they have no reason to get on your case.

don't get hung up on stuff like getting your parents to respect you. it's impossible to say without actually knowing them but if you're getting good grades, treat your family well, stay out of trouble, etc. they probably do respect you. if you do all of these things and they don't, trying to reason with them won't get you anywhere.

TP the house, and impress them with the flourish in which you do so. If that doesn't gain you their respect, nothing will.
