There was the original Movie in 1995 based on the manga along with a follow up to it (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence) Then the Stand alone Complex Series (TV) which had the Laughing Man movie and the Individual Eleven movie which were just major parts of the TV series put into movies with some changes. Then Solid State Society which takes place after the Stand alone Complex TV series. Sorry, I just wanted to make sure he knew it was more then one movie because your posted sounded like there was only one.
you can find the complete seasons for $35 a piece, in a thinner packaging, that's cheaper than some $60 to $100 box sets with larger packaging (the size of seven regular DVDs cases in a box), or getting it one disc at a time for $20 or more a disc (for seven discs at 3 or 4 episodes a pop)... if you have Netflix though you can watch them all, they should both be available one thing I like from the DVD that's not on the Netflix though or through cable TV is the Tachikoma Days shorts between episodes I'm hoping they'll get the entire thing on blu-ray sometimes soon, hopefully cheap
