The Dillinger Escape Plan is pretty good. Check em out_ Panasonic Youth, Setting Fire to sleeping giants,When good dogs do bad and 43% Burnt. you could check out some Converge aswell; Downpour :)
Metalcore is often called melodic-metal. It has the riffs and general talent of other kinds of metal on the instrumental part, but when it comes to the vocals its draws back to old school punk. Where the lead vocalist would both scream and sing. But were most types of metal can be catagorized as having a generic sound because of the stereotype in the last 3-4 years metalcore has been making a come back. Because it uses a wider music base then some other types of music. Some good metalcore songs are Waking the Demon by Bullet for my valentine, A gunshot to the head of trepidation by Trivium, I See the falling sky by Caliban, Endziet by Heaven Shall Burn, Countdown by Bring me the horizon,
A couple good bands are: Parkway Drive I Killed The Prom Queen As I Lay Dying The Ghost Inside And if you're looking for something abit heavier: The Red Shore The Eyes Of A Traitor Hope that helps mate.
Not really metalcore, but more brutal deathcore. I agree most metal/deathcore bands suck, but there are a handful that are good. Bands: Thy art is Murder (awesome band from australia) Rose funeral Oceano Black Dahlia Murder (Not really "core" because they don't do breakdowns, but good band.) Here comes the Kraken (Really good all mexican band.)
