Remember the German kid who killed fifteen people before killing himself? One reason might be because a girl rejected him.

Read the article. Apparently, it's all the fault of Far Cry 2. Guess he didn't like the respawning guard checkpoints either....
No, the article talks about Counter Strike as well.
Far Cry 2 causes Counter Strike to go on a shooting spree as well!? Is there no end to its insidious, corrupting influence?[QUOTE="CleanPlayer"]That girl must feel terrible for saying No to him. Theokhoth
She was the first person he killed.:|
Still must have felt terrible.
That girl must feel terrible for saying No to him. CleanPlayerThat's what I was thinking, I hope she doesn't blame herself for all the deaths.
EDIT: Nvm, she's dead.

When they say "The worst that can happen is her saying no", they obviously don't know how bad that no can affect some people.... Tragic and sad.. :(JustPlainLucas
So, are you intimating that chicks should just put out?
I think one of the root problems has been the shift in the educational system towards consant messages of "positive reinforcement." No matter how much of a screw up a student is, teachers will never say anything negative. Hell, they aren't even allowed to use the word "negative" anymore. Now, they must say "constructive". ANyway, kids are basically taught that anything they do, now matter how half-arsed, has merit and they're never in the wrong or never need to re-assess their work or their habits when they do a poor job, because they're told the possibility of them doing a poor job doesn't exist.
It fills kids with a sense of entitlement and an inability to handle any kind of criticism or rejection. It's not universal, but I do see this trait becoming more and more common amongst the younger people I work with. Any time they're told that they aren't measuring up, most just can't accept it. Some blow a gasket and flip out. Some get petualant and do an even worse job. Some get pissy and turn to malicious gossip, facebook hate pages, and the like. Luckily, thus for nobody's reached for a gun. Worst I've seen is a 19 year old summer student pick up a metal rake and take a swing at his 24 year old grad student supervisor when she had the termerity to suggest that he not smoke a joint while on the job.

You clearly don't know about the German school system. In Germany, students are separated at 6 years of age into three different schools depending on their grades. There is the Real-schule (the worst), the Haupt-schule and the Gymnasium (best). This guy used to go to a Real-schule, the worst of all the school. It is a school where you don't even recieve and Abschluss (equivalent of a high school diploma or A-levels). So, you grow up knowing that you will never amount to anything because not having an Abschluss in Germany means that you will not go to university or college. I blame this elitist system for all the school shootings in Germany. It is antiquated and alienates certain members of society.
This is what you idiot politicians should be looking at! Stop wasting your stupid time worrying about Counter-Strike and look for a REAL solution. (This is not directed at you, I'm just randomly ranting against the German politicians that seem to admire Jack Thompson's practises).
Some American experts are convinced of a link between school shootings and violent games.
Lieutenant-Colonel Dave Grossman, a West Point psychology professor, said: "You can see their influence in the way these school shooters aim and shoot accurately and move from one target to the next, moving through people dispassionately."

I taught English at a technical high school in Gorlitz for 6 months. All of the things I mentioned above went on at the school. I wasn't allowed to give a failing grade to any student, no matter how poorly they performed. About the only things they could be taken to task for were absenteeism, use of "un-PC" lanaguage, or outright violence and even then, most of the supposed intervetion took the form of happy-feely "counselling sessions" where they talked about their feelings while having a piece of cake.

Actually, it was Far Cry 2.
Turning round and seeing that the enemies you killed 30 seconds ago have respawned is frustrating indeed. >_>[QUOTE="Blackviperr"][QUOTE="DrSponge"]

Maybe he was frustrated by campers
Its amusing that the article in question remarked on how accurate his aim was thanks to gaming. What makes it all the more amusing is that earlier in the article it mentions that his father took him to gun clubs at a very young age.
*facepalm*
They needed to throw in the violent video game connection why? The guy was obviously mentally ill to do something that extreme... probably long before he got the game. It is a shame that something like this happens... but when they throw in anti-video game propaganda along with it, I just find it despicable. Unless he is playing a US Army military VR simulator, he isn't going to get much "training" from even modern day games.
It's says in the article his depression wasn't serious. I mean his depression wasn't serious? Somehow I doubt that... People like that wouldn't be very open anyway so it's hard I'd imagine even for a psychologist to really know there state of mind. For whatever reason the guy was pretty screwed in the head and seemingly pretty sadistic. A personality like that would likely cause a interest in things like bondage and violent video games. His interests didn't make him how he is, how he is made him interested in them in the first place. I mean clearly he played farcry 2 and counterstrike for different reasons than most people.
