I'm a pretty firm believer in the idea that most Americans have just as equal an opportunity to advance as any others, but sometimes I lose my convincing. Take for example this girl (http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/business&id=7425321) , that her "investors" (her mom and dad) gave her 100,000 dollars for her to make a social media website and a t-shirt website. She is now considered the genius of the school and is getting tons of attention from the media. I find this slightly unfair. I did a little more research, and from what I can see, she didn't even make the website, that 100 grand paid people to do it. Throughout school I was the kid everyone liked that could program websites, software, games, and pretty well anything else awesome, yet, my teachers all just said that was silly. The rich kids on the other hand that talked about wanting to learn those things, got all the attention and were deemed "the smart ones". This story kind of brought back those school memories for me. Nyone else feel this way about this stuff....?

Life isn't fair.

People that believe it is are either fools or idiots.
All you can do is make the most of what you are given and take pride in what you are able to accomplish.

Your teachers were idiots. Some people will just have life easier for them from the start while others have to work thier butt off just to live a comfortable life, nothing new.

This. Comparative to starving children in Africa, I'd say most of us are doing pretty well.

True that. and most teachers are obstacles rather than instructors. Most children born to upperc.l.a.s.s will have more opportunity unfortunately.

The sad part is it's the people that give them the attention and respect for being rich, which can only get them farther, while the people that work their asses off aren't even recognized as existing lol. Paris Hilton is an extreme example, but years ago I didn't know she existed, and now she's getting paid a million dollars just to show up at an event for 10 minutes. Gotta love what people do with their money, one person is trying to pay the other rent, another person is spending a year's rent worth on a card game as pocket change. Life just ain't fair, it's insane (and disgusting) how the two extremes can exist. But I'm just going to stop now before I sound like a whiner. In reality money means very little, it's what you make the life you have that's important.

I've always, and still am, 'the computer kid' at my school. Whenever there is a problem with a teachers computer, I get called out of class to fix it. I've had people offer me money to make them websites for some club or another. I can make a website with less than 10$. And that's just the domain name, I host the site. I can't stand it when people hire others to do their work, then take credit for it.

If you were one of the "smart ones" you'd be the one being paid by this girl. :P In the end though it'll be those who know how to program and use image editing software that get the jobs.

And there are people out there that would view you like you view Paris Hilton
-you are on a computer, for fun, posting your own thoughts w/out fear of reprisal

I am not trying to turn this into a contest of who is worse off.

But nothing is 'fair'...we are all different
The only way things would be fair is if we were all born into the exact same situations (same IQ, parents, sex, race, house, school, etc)

Hmm, but ignorance is bliss. Maybe the people in the mud huts all live in the same type of hut, and since greater luxuries are unknown to them, they live a happy life. Meanwhile we're running on the never-ending treadmill to chase the fame and fortune that we'll never achieve, and have to convince ourselves to be happy with what we have when we know much better things lie just beyond our reach, taunting and eluding us.

I also have a life-long hatred for people with rich parents coming from growing up in a wealthy town. All those kids got to go to the best schools because they didn't have to take tuition into consideration. They then didn't have jobs in college and were able to get good grades due to not having a 40-hour a week job. They then have the rich parent connection from the country club to get interviews with good companies. All men are created equal my ass.

Maybe it's because I'm not rich, but I'd rather work my ass of for my money, than get it handed to me on a silver platter by my parents. For some reason, most, not all, but most well off kids I've met, are arrogant asshats, that don't understand the concept of hard work. I'd rather be a hard worker, than a lazy jack off that spends his parents money. Of course, I was never raised rich, so who knows.

My parents are paying for my food and rent when I go to University...I just have to pay my tuition...So I guess me saying she's spoiled is hypocritical...If she gets wealthy off this though, she should pay her parents back, and then some I think though.

way of the world. it's not the person actually doing the work that gets the recognition. its the person in charge that gets the praise. steve jobs is a perfect example of that.
