any of you guys wanna work at Gitmo?

---

"Do you want to work for an exciting educational organization, with the children of our dedicated U.S. Military members?", asks the posting on a federal government jobs site. Well, of course you do. Who wouldn't? But do you want to do it at Guantanamo Bay?

Yes, if you're willing to work for $50.50 to $101 per day, you too can be a substitute teacher at the naval base that houses America's most elite unconstitutional interrogative correctional academyâ„¢. You'll teach military brats ages K-12, giving lessons in "subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development." You'll fulfill "non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed." You'll learn to accept the violence that's taken place within Gitmo's borders, and eventually, that hollow, uneasy feeling in the bottom of your stomach will subside.

Qualified candidates will be U.S. Citizens who meet Selective Service requirements. You'll also have to be living within commuting distance of Gitmo already, or due to arrive within two months. Some more guidelines:

DoDDS employs the best qualified professional staff to implement its program of learning. The best qualified candidate is defined as an applicant who possesses a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association which includes 18 semester hours of coursework in the field of professional teacher education; a baccalureate degree in any major; or an associate degree or has completed at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or if necessary, selection may be made on minimum qualification requirement. The minimum qualification is a high school diploma or graduate equivalency diploma (GED).

Sound like you? Applications are due July 9.

Pretty sure any teacher that's been in public schools for over 10 years would love to take that position just to they could vent out their frustration on the inmates.

They had better watch out for the flying cups of blood, semen, feces, and urine while they're trying to teach.

Do you think that the school is in the same building as the prison or something?

can't say I read the article, and I assumed that the teachers were wanted for the prisoners. Kinda dumb I admit.

It's kind of hard calling the base unconstitutional considering the fact that it is used to hold detainees who are not US citizens on property outside the US. But to each their own.

Besides, the Department of Defense asks for American teachers to work at all of their domestic and overseas bases that have schools for military brats, not just Guantanamo.

It's not like the schoolteachers who work on Fort Leavenworth can just go to the USDB and talk to Inmates Manning or Hasan to shoot the shit with them or something...

This is the real posting.

The stuff that was in the OP was added by the Gawker and totally doesn't take into account that the teachers may never even see a detainee and will be only working with the children of servicemembers and contractors stationed there.

That original advertising was too comical to be considered anything beyond dubiety. Good find.

You know that not everyone at Gitmo has free access to the inmates, right? It's not that different from the US. School teachers aren't given access to federal prisons to "take out their frustration."

Of course not. Federal Prisons have US citizens in them and they have rights. Unlike those in Gitmo for some reason.

@Treflis: So do you think that school teachers have free access to inmates in Gitmo?

Wouldn't they need to if they're employed there where they're supposed to provide education and disipline/waterboard them if they misbehave?

Yes, if they were they're supposed to provide education and discipline to inmates they would need access to the inmates.

However they're not supposed to provide education and discipline to inmates. They're school teachers.

I really do like how you jumped on my joke about public school teachers being frustrated and finding a way to get it vented out, came along when I pulled your leg and we've ended up at this point.
