Nine alleged members of a Christian militia group that was girding for battle with the Antichrist were charged Monday with plotting to kill a police officer and slaughter scores more by bombing the funeral — all in hopes of touching off an uprising against the U.S. government.

I find it interesting that thus far all the responses are along the lines of "just a bunch of loonies, every religion has them and no religion should be judged based off of them". I have the same view, however, the reason I find it interesting is because whenever the same kind of topic comes up about Muslim terrorists the responses tend to be half what we're seeing in this thread and half "Islam is an evil religion that encourages murder".

Every religion has its extremist zealots. You just hear more about the muslim ones in the media.

This "militia" is nothing more then another terrorist organization that needs to be wiped out.

"Prosecutors said David Stone had identified certain law enforcement officers near his home as potential targets. He and other members discussed setting off bombs at a police funeral, using a fake 911 call to lure an officer to his death, killing an officer after a traffic stop, or attacking the family of an officer, according to the indictment." That's just disgusting.

Fundies often confuse their will with God's will. This instance indicates cult behaviour rather than a large religious movement, which means that christian dogma isn't necessarily to blame. They're welcome to believe that you can kill cops or rape children for the glory of God, but I've yet to see a new testament scripture that endorses either of those things.

And to my knowledge. Nothing in the Koran endorses killing innocent people and terrorist masterminds are also confusing thier will with Gods will.

I don't get it. If this had been a thread about a Muslim extremest group with some sarcastic remark about liking the way Muslims were going. Then the thread would be immediatly locked, and user suspended for Xanophobia or whatever you want to call it, and it wouldn't be tolerated. But because it's Christian hate it's fine...it shouldn't be fine for any religion really.

Just because it's a pet peeve of mine, it's "Thou shalt not murder."

To stay on-topic though, I'm glad these people were arrested. If the allegations are true, that's just completely sick. And for an allegedly Christian group you think they'd follow at least the major rules. Killing innocent people definitely falls under the murder category.

Ergo, why I said it would be murder. I'm agreeing that they were in the wrong, but I was just correcting the quote.

There are two quotes that many people mangle that are on my pet peeves list:
"Luke, I am your father." > Which is really: "No. I am your father."
And the aformentioned Bible verse.

Well one is an actual mangling of a quote and the other is at best a mistranslation since the bible, atleast mine, says "Though shalt not kill".

Technically the Pope (God's representative on Earth) claimed that God wills it. This is if you believe the Pope to be God's representative on Earth as the Catholics do.
