From the Article:

People who hope to beat the summer heat by swimming, floating or boating on rivers in King County must wear a life vest or face an $86fine.

A divided County Council on Monday passed a personal flotation device ordinance by a five to four vote. Opponents said it was an intrusive move by "biggovernment."

"This Council sometimes thinks it's everybody's mom," said Councilwoman Kathy Lambert, who voted "no."

Yep... Big brother is actually building underwater telepathy bases to control the minds of the masses... This is so no one can see them... In King County. Big Brother. Conspiracy. Government repression. Flotation devices. Stupidity.

Just another law taking away rights. That's how the powerful do it, take itty bitty pieces, been saying this for many years. People kept saying it is no big deal, and then this comes along. Ridonculous.

Here's an idea, don't go swimming if you don't know how to swim.

Oh right, that's relying on people to use common sense...

This. It is very hard to swim with a life vest on.

Trying wearing a life vest as pants rather than how it is suppose to be used. Quite a challenge actually. Made it fun. There I go again, making safe things dangerous.

Another reason to rip off citizens. But I guess it is sane to wear a vest while going for a swim in deep regions

Think of it like a diaper. Heck, you're even allowed to relieve yourself, you're in a lake after all.

You can balance this out by tying some breeze blocks to you feet, it will make you look tough.

What would happen if you see a car drive off a bridge into a river, even if you were an expert swimmer wouldn't it be illegal to jump in and try to save people?

swimming is fun... till you get wet, that is why i want to propose mandatory boats for everyone who wants to swim, anyone not found within the safety of their boat will be fined and jailed for public endangerment

Councilwoman Julia Patterson, a "yes" vote, said the same arguements Dunn made agains the life vest ordinance were also made against laws requiring child safety seats in automobiles and banning smoking in publicplaces.
