The Kite Runner and The Thousand Splendid suns
great book and have recieved ALOT of praise and i mean ALOT
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is great and shortish. Too short for how good it is IMO fastesttruck
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
The book is filled with symbolism and themes, but the book is really easy to understand.
Maximum Ride by James Patterson
A group of bird/human kids are running away from scientists from a location called The School. The book is filled with action.
The Finishing School by Michelle Martinez
The book is about a mystery on a huge drug smuggle. At the end, I had no clue that the person who did it was right under my nose.
'The Catcher in the Rye' is a fantastic read. XB360_John
"A Clockwork Orange" is a fantastic novel and yet is criminally short. But when a story is brought down by redundancies it is a detriment to the experience.foxhound_fox
A Clockwork Orange is pretty amazing as well. Nadsat took me a bit to get used to though,

'Lone Survivor' by Marcus Luttrell, i believe thats how you spell it is magnificant. its very easy to understand and is phenominal. one of my favorites. Really makes you appreciate the people in the military as well
A Clockwork Orange isn't about the story so much as it is a statement upon morality, but I absolutely agree that it's criminally short.

I really love The Lord of the Rings and Trainspotting. Notes From Underground is really funny, but really just cool also. I also appreciate For Whom the Bell Tolls quite a lot, and No Country For Old Men was an interesting way of saying 'you damn kids, get off my lawn'.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest
Trainspotting
Fight Club
A Clockwork Orange.
I realise they're all movies, but the novels are superior.
1984 by George Orwell
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Sea Wolf by Jack London
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad
any book by Michael Crichton (and DO NOT JUDGE BY COVER)
Thr Dark Tower Series by Stephen King
Polgara the sorceress or any book related to the Belgariad and the Malloreon series
Next by Crichton
The Last Juror by Grisham
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Eye of the Storm by Jack Higgins
Rising Sun by Crichton
Atlas Shrugged is very long. If you just want something to last a couple days I'd go with Rising Sun or The Last Juror. I thought both were excellent.
You must not have ever read Prey. That was not a book to recommend.any book by Michael Crichton (and DO NOT JUDGE BY COVER)

:( What makes the series bad after the third book?
Well, it goes like this. The first book is freaking awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone. The second devolves a bit into... gore and unnecessary gore at that. The third is just stupid with its descriptions (of gore). The 4th book gets a little better again, but it's kind of stupid and confusing and you just wish that he would've made the "trials and tribulations" shorter. 5th book is relatively lame. I really liked the 6th book a lot. After that, I stopped. It just really goes downhill. He never captures the magnificence of the first book again. Though the second book does get close.I highly agree, but I'm not sure it's where I'd tell people to start their investigations into Vonnegut :oAnd lastly The Breakfast of Champions is a great book.

Slaughterhouse 5 was the first Vonnegut I ever read, perhaps he could start there?

The Harry Potter series. I read 1 through 6. Good stuff. The Golden Compass wasn't bad. Kinda boring sometimes, though.BranKetra[QUOTE="Jandurin"]Watership Down by Richard Adams, I think it is. It's about bunnies. Awesome bunnies. All of those books mentioned are good. To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee is one of my favourite books of all time. The Hobbit by Tolkien is amazing as well, and I would go as far to say it is much better than the LOTR.

I really like to tell people to start with Cat's Cradle. Dunno why.Slaughterhouse 5 was the first Vonnegut I ever read, perhaps he could start there?

Yeah, it sort of gives an idea of how... interesting his books will be, without getting so far out as to scare the person away. And, it's a really good book.Actually, that is a good starting place. It has the archetypal Vonnegut style.
