LIES!
Indie is said largely to have started with underground bands like the Velvet Underground in the Us, continuing with bands like Sonic Youth and others that I named, and in Britain with the Smiths and The Jesus and the Mary Chain among others. Britpop was heavily influenced by these, but didn't come first.
Sorry, you've awaken the indie-purist in me :P Great bands listed though!
You are perfectly correct!
I worded it wrong to be honest, Indie is a huge collaboration of everything from Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, to Bands such as The Small Faces, The Yardbirds, Beatles.. What I meant was Britpop was probably the most recent influence of British Indie.. not counting the more grunge 90's american approach such as Sonic Youth (awesome) Pavement, Pixies (to a certain extent), Weezer.. etc
There ya go :P
I had a feeling you knew, I mean, anyone with such mint taste in indie must know. :D
I merely had to educate the heathens.
