I've been dying to find some light rock bands I like, but I'm just not finding what I'm looking for.

Let me specify. I'm looking for music along the lines of this and this, focusing on a light tone and acoustic melodies mixed with a little electric guitar.

Probably my favorite band. They have a southern sound to them, it definitely grows on you.

OR

The Spill Canvas(kind of emo...if you care)

Brand New(Great lyrics)

Buckethead has a few softish cd's you may like (they are instrumental though), Electric Tears, Colma, Acoustic Shards.. A few of Paul Gilbert's songs, Six Billion People, Koto Girl, Boku no Atama. Not sure you'd like it based on those songs you put up as examples, but... I do :D

Days of the New features a lot of acoustic guitar. There is also Jethro Tull for a different experience.

Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place

Guns N' Roses - One In A Million (My personal favorite)

Buckethead - Too Many Humans (Doesn't have any acoustic but it's a light bluesy instrumental)

BRMC - Beat The Devil's Tattoo

And you if you don't mind some heavy metal with soft acoustic pieces, listen to Opeth.

I think you would like some Opeth, but mainly stick to their Damnation album, it is all light, and most of their songs have light elements but for the most part are pretty metal.

Metric. :)

Songs I thought matched what you described:

"Police and the Private"

"Satellite Mind"

"Blindness"

"Help I'm Alive"

Songs that are more upbeat/loud than that:

"IOU"

"Stadium Love"

Songs that are more downplayed/quieter than that:

"On a Slow Night"

"Calculation Theme"

Hope that helps.
