Looking for some good classic rock songs and ballads. Just an example of some bands I like, Queen (My Favorite), Boston, Foreigner, Europe, Journey, Bad Company, and The Eagles. That should be enough to get the idea of what I like. Then some ballads I like are Fly To The Angels by Slaughter, and High Enough by Damn Yankees. Any suggestions?

It is not a whole converse phenomenon. There is 'the Eiffel Tower culture' (Trompernaars, 1997:166) in the international management. , which is a low power distance. In the lower power dis tance, (Hoecklin, 1995:31) 'higher-educated employees hold much less authoritarian values than lower-educated ones.' The obedience showed from the subordinates to the superiors is not as much as the oriental way. The leadership can be called as hierarchy and consensus. Employee can have different opinion with his/her boss. And when he/she got different ideas, he/she can go all the way up to the boss and discuss the problem. This is a good thing usually company may explore all the potentials of its employees, because sometime the subordinates may have the better&nb sp;idea of the business.

You might like The Protomen. "Keep Quiet", "Breaking Out" and "Light Up The Night". There's a distinctly early-mid 80s style in a few of their songs(including the above) including the lyrical stylings. Real semi-epic like a mixture of Meatloaf, Bruce Springsteen and Journey. "Light Up The Night" is a shorter song closer to the radio friendly mid-eighties new-wave/rock with a bit of a modern feel. As for others.....not many I can think of that have that ballad feel. The Hold Steady have a song called "Lord, I'm Discouraged" that is somewhat like that. The Hold Steady are kind of like the "classic rock" but are more Springsteen than Eagles if I had to compare. Muse (another to check out) fits the rock mold, although the first song I linked is much like the ballad-type you mentioned. The bracketed song is....well, rock. In the same arena-rock vein. MyMorningJacket would fit the southern rock feel. It's a hybrid band that blends a lot of sounds from the artists you included, among others in the same era. Sam Roberts is very much a throwback kind of band as well. Here's two foryou to check. You MIGHT like Fleet Foxes, Tom Waits (if you like the Eagles, you might recognize this), Arcade Fire, Jackie Greene..... Anywho, I hope you liked at least one of the ones I linked :D Good luck!

And yes, I did avoid listing older bands. I figure some new blood is worthy for discussion, if it fits the sound/criteria.

Hmmm lets see:

First off I feel the need to give some better Muse suggestions:

Muse-United States of Eurasia (This is like the Bohemian Rhapsdy of the new century)

Muse-Blackout (Really chill, somewhat ballad-esque song)

Muse-New Born (One of the bands best songs)

As for some more stuff:

Avenged Sevenfold-I Won't See You Tonight Part 1 (This is a ballad and a good one at that)
Avenged Sevenfold-Buried Alive (another cool, ballady song by the band)

Opeth-Burden (Slow and beautiful song by a fantastic band)

Stevie Ray Vaughan-Little Wing (Probably the greatest guitarist ever. Pinnacle of old school guitar right here)

The Outlaws-Green Grass and High Tides (Think Freebird but more awesome)

Rush - Entre Nous

Rush - The Spirit of The Radio

Rush - Fly By Night

Rush - Mission

(Come to think of it, anything by Rush. They're not all ballads but Rush is the best band ever so...) ;)

Triumph - Never Say Never

Whitesnake - Is This Love

Saigon Kick - Love is on The Way

Jellyfish - Baby's Coming Back

The Producers - She Sheila

Skid Row - I Remember You

The Cure - Pictures of You

I could go on and on and on but chances are nobody's even paying attention. :(

True, some weren't ballad. I had that in the back of my mind but posted them anyway.

What is the definition of a ballad anyway? I looked it up and got some different examples:

  • A popular song especially of a romantic or sentimental nature.
  • (Music, other) a narrative song with a recurrent refrain
  • ... songs often building to a loud and emotive chorus backed by drums, electric guitars and sometimes choirs.

Which of these are right? Or are they all right? Is it partial validation or do they all need to be in a song for it to qualify as a ballad?
