Good sci fi movie recommendation?

I want it to be less about action and more about space exploration, alien civilization and stuff like that. And rather want it to be quiet modern. And I want real quality.

People have listed good films in this thread, but Moon is about the only one that meets any of your criteria. District 9 is a great film but it's primarily an action film.Chevolutionary

it is an old 70's movie and of course has low production values but the movie is amazing anyway.

What about the Stargate movie?

I think it was pretty good. Been awhile since I watched it.

Don't have any that fit your criterion, but Event Horizon is amazing if you haven't seen it.

You should check out Another Earth. It is a great independent movie or whatever. Amazing, blew my mind.

Blade Runner, doesn't exactly fit the description you gave but it's probably the best sci-fi (cyberpunk) movie out there.

I thought Pandorum was pretty good. It sorta fits your criteria and it came out in 2009 I believe.
