Ok ye got a 'date' on friday, going out for some drinks then going back to my place to watch a film nd hang out. I need a good film that is thought provoking but also won't put a downer on the mood. Cause this girl isn't like ditsy and stupid like some are, she doesnt watch like legally blonde and that rubbish, she like war films and ww2 and films that make you think.

Initially I was thinking about American History x, but I thought the ending might be a major downer (the kid gets shot)

then I considered Donnie Darko, but I think it is too thought provoking and might just end up confusing the hell out of both of us. ( I havent seen it)

So do any of you guys know any thought provoking films that the ending or parts of it won't be a major downer because it is a 'date' and its hard getting lucky if shes in a state of shock or w/e.

cheers , after the film she'll probably want to kick my ass at cod4 so shell probs b in a better mood after that haha

Do you have a car? In the middle of the fim, get up and say "eh, this movie is boring, lets go have so fun!" then take her somewhere entertaining. Movies are boring for dates

Thought provoking movies.... There is always the odd choice of Natural Born Killers....

For an actual date though, me thinks you should go for more lighter fare than a "thinker". I am not saying put on fluff or anything, but something with a lighter plot would provide nice background noise for more important things like dinner and conversation. I guess it depends how far into a relationship you are, really.

But to me, No Country for Old Men, Children of Men, Blade Runner, Juno, The Departed, Before the Devil Knows You Are Dead, In the Valley of Elah, There Will Be Blood, and more are all good, deeper movies. If she is a war person, maybe something like starting Band of Brothers? If nothing else there, you have material for a few more date nights.

A little aside, a great gift for any war buff (especially WWII) Is the superb BBC Doc "BBC History of World War II" It is a killer of a documentary. 10 discs, and packed with amazing info.

Do you really think Band of Brothers or Children of Men are good "date" movies? You have to get those friggin romantic comedies..

Forgetting Sara Marshall is a funny one, or maybe some other chick flick. You do not want to get a war movie or a movie with alot of special effects and violence. It will not set the mood for her to want to "Uhhhhhh" during the movie :D

ok cheers for the advice man, and I can understand what your saying. Wev just been out a few times so its still early in the relationship, but weve known each other for a while. emm, ye I actually forgot about No Country for Old Men, thats a great thriller film and I don't think shes seen it. its a bit deep but not too deep, and it has its exciting moments. and lol she already has that exact documentary that you're talking about :D

Go for Little Miss Sunshine, its a great movie! Its funny and entertaining yet very intelligent, it makes a far better "date" movie than some macho war/gangster/crime/horror movie or w/e that everyone else is recommending. Wall-e and Slumdog Millionare are also very good.

Its a 125cc semi-old honda, its pretty sweet. I just got it recently, the weather has been rubbish lately though for riding. Bikes are deffinitely somewhat of a chick magnet, when you walk around with a helmet you always get looks from the girls. btw i cant remember the exact name of the model. man ur lucky to have two bikes at 17!

American History X would probably be too heavy. I would say...thought provoking, hmm: Gone Baby Gone - you can discuss the moral ambiguity. There Will Be Blood has a lot of subtext and irony too. Man, you could even try a movie like About Schmidt, Sideways or Little Miss Sunshine - they are funny but they also have a lot to say about people! Tell me what you think of my ideas!

I got a Yamaha XT125X and a Honda Varadero XL125. :P The Varadero is off the road now, I got crashed into so I bought another bike.
Loving the XT though, wheel spinning on the icy roads is alot of fun.
