Even if file sharing is legal in Canada (is it?), it may be against the Terms Of Usage of your ISP, in which case they would be entitled to apply restrictions.
BTW I would advise everyone to stay away from The Dark Knight when it inevitably comes on the internet, I think the movie companies will be all over that one

it already has hit the internet and there were multiple hosters for each of the multiple recordings within a week, big films appear quickly but they also tend to disappear quickly

its already out on the internet
stream them instead, streaming is actually leagal and can only get the uploader or hoster in trouble also if you know a bit about computers you should be able to get the file out of your TIF files for later use though the quality won't be up to what you're used tomarkop2003

Stop downloading movies then. It was just a warning, you'll be fine if you stop. If you REALLY want to watch a movie legally without paying, you could find tons of websites streaming it online.
would that work. also as you have been asking this is what the letter said...[QUOTE="RPG10080"]Threaten to take action against them for illegally spying on your personal activites.dsman418

If you got warnings from two companies then you must be downloading alot of content, but that is really wierd that two different companies would complain about you in particular. Maybe your ISP is giving bogus letters. Stating that a company is complaining about your downloading, just to cut down on piracy.

ya i download alot of content, i have every episode of south park, family guy and two and a half men, not to mention a movie collection of over 30 titlesThats spying or invasion of privacy. I have never heard of an ISP calling someone out for that. Lame.
Anyway, could you give us some details such as:
1. ISP
2. What the letter said
i cant help but think the thread creator is lying to us.
Why would an ISP call you to ask you to stop downloading movies or send you a letter?
ok so i got caught downloading movies, fair. i did it but im in canada and isnt file sharing legal in canada, just wondering how warner bros found out and what i can to to prevent being fined(minus the obvious of stop downloading stuffdsman418
It's arguable but an ISP can simply deny service to you. I know a guy that had the same thing happen. That said, I bet your ISP is Bell Sympatico. If you can, switch to Rogers.
Now, it was most likely a Paramount film that you were nailed for, since Bell and Paramount are like bros. What happens is Paramount requests a list of all their films that were downloaded. They search for IPs that have downloaded multiple films (say 5 or more) and threaten to sue Bell if your IP address does not stop downloading Paramount films. Bell sends a threat letter to you and you are thereforth black-marked by both Bell and Paramount.

The first time that happened to me, I searched, discovered, and installed PeerGuardian. It has never happened since. Adobe can kiss my fat one!
