Who doesn't love a great live performance?  So many artists these days can make good music in the studio but fail to live up to their talent when performing before a live audience.

Have you ever seen a really great live show, or like a musician paticuarly for the quality of their live performances?

I've been to a ton of concerts from a countless number of genres.  Out of all the shows I've seen, I'd have to say that Jethro Tull put on the show out of all the people I've seen; "his" vocals and flute playing were absolutely incredible.  Elton John always puts on a great show, too... but his vocals have collapsed somewhat in recent years, =/.

Honorable mention goes out to the Devin Towsend Band!  They brought down the shores of Virginia Beach a few years back!

Feel free to post links to good live performances too.  Live music rocks!

Jethro Tull -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toHlMD50eYY

Devin Townsend -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrMTaRw4k6k

On a side note, Metal concerts are usually the most fun and wacky concernts to attend.

I always love watching this performance of lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tsWz-Q7JYQA

Wait until the three-guitar solo and how the crowd reacts to it.

I have always loved Nine Inch Nails performances from the 90s especially. They are great now, but in terms of energy on stage they lack alittle bit.

The first Nine Inch Nails performance i went to was back in 2000 and i'm pretty sure Trent was off his face, but either way the energy between him, Robin Finck and Danny Lohner was awesome.

Terrible Lie and Sin from the Fragility era.

I'm not much of a fan of NiN, in fact I hate their music for the most part, but I must admit, they put on a pretty darn good live show (I've only seen one, an ex-GF dragged me to it).  Tons of energy.  Trent is great.  Now if he'd just drop the whole mass aggression, gothiness, and encorporate some progressive elements into his music, =/.

Brian Jonestown Massacre are, to date, the best live act I've seen. They are closely followed by 'iForward, Russia!' and 'Babyshambles'. The worst live band I've seen, however, are Razorlight - no energy or showmanship at all. Just came on, played songs then left. Terrible.

edit: I can't believe I forgot about Hard-Fi. Scratch Razorlight and replace 'the worst live band ever' with Hard-Fi.

Eh, I thought Dire Straits did better during Live Aid 1985.
